Eliminations From Shortly Before the Break

Julian Powell is OUT -- A-K against queens, which held up.

-------

Also gone is Anna Wroblewski, all in preflop with K-Q against an opponent's A-5, both an ace and a five on the flop.

-------

Alex Jacob is also no more, after getting his pocket tens cracked by K-2, a king on the turn.

Big Stack Attack

One table was recently treated to an entertaining hand, two big stacks going at it hammer and tongs and sending an emphatic "mess with us at your peril" message to their fellow players.

With a {2-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{10-Spades} flop waiting patiently on the felt, the two players went raise crazy, Jonas Danielson making a big all in push in an effort to win the pot there and then.

After a long pause, his opponent eventually made the call and showed {5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}. As the hand was tabled, the other players' eyes widened, and even more so when it emerged that Danielson was bluffing with {A-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}.

Although the drama would have been enhanced with an ace or nine on the turn or river, it didn't emerge, the final two streets bring a {4-Diamonds} and {8-Spades}.

Aken to Get Ahead

James Akenhead
James Akenhead
James Akenhead, who finished second in event two, is now down to the felt with nothing but loose change.

As I joined the action, Akenhead was all in on a {6-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} board for 6,900 in chips. With another 3,000 waiting patiently in the pot, his unknown opponent set up camp in the think tank before finally making the call.

Stoic and statuesque throughout, Akenhead's shoulders slumped as he realized he needed some help, his {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts} in trouble against a superior {K-Spades}{K-Hearts}.

However, it didn't emerge, the raggy {3-Diamonds} river missing all his outs and providing his opponent with a timely double through.

Cousineau Doubles Through

Tony Cousineau has doubled up his microstack to 5,000.

All in preflop with {8-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} against {A-Hearts} {J-Diamonds}, he muttered, "It's hard to win a coinflip around here," as the {A-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} came down. He changed his mind come the {10-Clubs} turn and {J-Spades} river though -- "Maybe not, maybe not," he said, as he made his straight for the double-up.
