Tabatabai Runs Good

John Tabatabai
John Tabatabai
Betfair's John Tabatabai, who finished second in the inaugural World Series of Poker Europe last year, has been enjoying multiple slices of fortune pie during these opening rounds.

Firstly, Tabatabai didn't realise the event was today, and consequently turned up ninety minutes late to find his stack depleted to 3,500. However, right off the bat he was dealt aces, and so duly raised it up.

By the river, Tabatabai had just one yellow 1,000 chip left, but his opponent didn't realise and turned over a flopped full house to spare him his tournament life.

Now, after spiking a nine with {9-Spades}{9-Hearts} versus {J-Spades}{J-Clubs} on a {9-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{4-Spades}{4-Hearts}{6-Clubs} board, Tabatabai is boasting a stack of 9,500 and thanking his lucky stars that his opponent didn't have his eyes on the game.

"I was nearly back at the pool," he added.

It's a hard life...

"I Am the Worst Player"

Gus Hansen and Dario Minieri are sharing a table and recently got involved in a scuffle, out of which Hansen emerged with the upper hand.

They saw a {10-Diamonds} {8-Spades} {7-Spades} flop, and Hansen checked it from the big blind. Minieri made it 300 from the button, and Hansen called.

Again, Hansen checked the {J-Diamonds} turn, and then called the 500 from Minieri. Hansen checked the {2-Diamonds} river and this time Minieri checked too. Muttering, "I am the worst player," Hansen flipped over {7-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds}. Minieri mucked.

Minieri on 10,000, Hansen on 11,000.

Recent Eliminations

Scott Seiver, Vanessa Rousso and Gavin Smith are all OUT, the latter running his J-9 into the pocket rockets of Fred Goldberg at some point (presumably the flop) on a {6-?} {8-?} {10-?} {2-?} {9-?} board.

Williams Drops Down

Jeff Williams has dropped down to 9,000 from his earlier peak of 24,000. He reraised an early position raiser from the small blind and then bet out 700 on the {7-Clubs} {10-Hearts} {5-Hearts} flop. His opponent raised to 1,700 and Williams called. Williams checked the {J-Spades} turn, and when the original raiser bet 3,000, Williams raised to 10,000. The original raiser called all in, and flipped over {8-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} for the turned nut. Williams mucked even before the {8-Hearts} river was dealt.

Mark Seif Eliminated

Mark moved all in for his last 2,200 preflop behind a raise of 525 from the UTG player.

The player in the small blind moved all in over the top for more than 4000 and the UTG player released his hand.

Mark tabled {9-?} {9-?} while his opponent held {K-?} {K-?} .

No help on the board for Mark and he makes an early exit.
