Astonishing Pace

Even taking into account that this is a six-handed event, the pace of exits has been impressive. However, the average stack with 66 left and the blinds at 800/1600 is currently around 77,000 -- that's 50 big blinds -- so we may well see some tightening up as the prospect of the big money approaches.

Bentham Keeping Quiet

Thomas Bentham
Thomas Bentham
Thomas Bentham, who is sharing a table with Team PokerStars pro and double bracelet winner Bill Chen, is keeping relatively quiet so far today amid the bedlam of other tables, his stack currently hovering around the 60,000 mark.

Meanwhile, across the table is the daunting figure of Alon Shahar and his 265,000 chip-leading stack. Although seemingly invincible throughout the entirety of yesterday's play, I did witness Shahar lose a pot, heavy preflop action being followed by a checked-down {A-Hearts}{2-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{2-Hearts} board, Shahar mucking as his opponent showed a triumphant {K-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}

Roy Vandersluis Eliminated

We've seen more departures than Paddington Station so far today, the next player to fall from the platform being Roy Vandersluis.

All in preflop with K-J, Vandersluis will have been relieved to have two live cards against the A-Q of Billy Westom, but alas, neither a king nor a knave emerged, and he was also gone.

Early Eliminations

Eliminations are coming thick and fast. Among those gone so far is George Veach, who shoved {J-Spades} {10-Hearts} into Jose Barbero's {A-Diamonds} {K-Clubs} only for Barbero to go on to make a flush on the {3-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} board to send him to the rail.

Also gone is Paul "Pab" Foltyn, who open-shoved with pocket sixes and got himself called by John Chou holding pocket nines, no help from the board.

Beam Me Up, Scotty

One player who has yet to arrive is former World Champion Scotty Nguyen... baby. He may already know about the delayed start, but either way, a late entry could prove costly with the short six-handed structure.

Let's hope we hear the jingle-jangling of jewelry and the much loved Scotty chuckle shortly.
