John Ngyuen Hates Pocket Jacks

Ben Alcober was all in with {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds} against John Nguyen's {J-Clubs} {J-Diamonds}. The flop was safe enough-- {Q-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {6-Spades}--as was the {2-Clubs} on the turn, but the {K-Spades} spiked on the river, giving Alcober the win and leaving Nguyen with only 3,500 in chips.

On the very next deal, Nguyen was all in, AGAIN with {J-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} on a very similar-looking flop-- {Q-Spades} {9-Hearts} {4-Hearts}-- against the {A-Spades} {K-Spades} of David Tashman. The turn was the {10-Hearts}, but the river was the {J-Spades}, giving Nguyen a set of jacks, but making Tashman a Broadway straight! Nguyen was eliminated and I wouldn't blame him if he never shoved with jacks again.

Christopher Grzadziel Eliminated

Jae Chung opened for 8,000 from middle position, Joseph Georges raised to 20,000 from the button, Christopher Grzadziel called all in from the small blind for less, and Chung shipped his remaining 56,000 into the middle, sending Georges into the tank.

"This is the stupidest laydown ever," said Georges as he mucked his {J-Spades} {J-Hearts} face-up.

Chung turned up {A-Spades} {K-Clubs} and was in a race situation with Grzadziel's {7-Clubs} {7-Diamonds}. Georges' instincts turned out to be right, as the flop came down {K-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} , pairing Chung's king. The turn was the {8-Diamonds}, the river was the {10-Diamonds} and Chung's stack shot up to 109,000 while Grzadziel was eliminated.

David Gilbert Eliminated

David Gilbert's day just came to a close when he ran his {4-Hearts} {4-Clubs} into the {A-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} of David Chicotsky and hit an {A-?} on the flop. Gilbert headed for the rail while Chicotsky chipped up to approximately 95,000.

Jason Brice Eliminated

Jason Brice open raised all in for his last 10,300 from under the gun. Action folded around to Ross Kline in the small blind and he called. The big blind, Jim Miller, looked down at his cards and reraised all in for a total of 59,000. Kline passed and Brice and Miller were heads up. They showed:

Brice: {4-Spades} {4-Diamonds}
Miller: {K-Spades} {K-Diamonds}

The board was fairly anticlimactic as it came {J-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} {A-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs}. Jason Brice was eliminated and Miller chipped up to almost 70,000 on the hand.

Arthur Kalantzis Eliminated

The eliminations keep coming. Arthur Kalantzis was the latest victim of day 2 play. He got his money in good holding {A-Spades} {Q-Spades} against the {Q-Diamonds} {J-Spades} of Michael Banducci but came up short when the board ran out {Q-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {6-Spades} {J-Hearts} {7-Hearts}. Kalantis exited and Michael Banducci now commands a stack of roughly 154,000.

Gerald Chasney Eliminated

It was a coinflip for his tournament life, and Gerald Chasney came out the loser. Getting the last of his money in before the flop, Chasney held {6-Spades} {6-Clubs} and raced against the {A-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} of Jason Lanktree. It was looking good for Chasney through the turn, but the {Q-Clubs} on the river sealed his fate. He has slid his remaining chips over to Lanktree and headed for the exit. Lanktree now sits on a stack of approximately 46,000.

Raquel Siegel Eliminated

Zeph Baer opened for a raise, Raquel Siegel moved all in from the small blind, Anthony Signore called from the big blind and Baer called as well. The flop was {K-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {7-Hearts}. Signore checked, Baer moved all in and Signore folded. On their backs...

Siegel {A-Spades} {J-Spades}

Baer {A-Clubs} {K-Spades}

The turn was the {3-Diamonds}, the river was the {A-Diamonds} and Siegel was eliminated. After the hand, Baer was up to 60,000.
