Gus Hansen Triples Up

Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen
Stud:

Gus Hansen, who has been on a virtual roller-coaster ride since this tournament began, was all in on third street in a pot with Ted Forrest and Allen Cunningham. Forrest made a wheel and ended up taking the side pot which was worth about 50,000 in chips but Hansen took down the main pot when he tabled ({A-Spades}) ({7-Spades}) {Q-Spades} {6-Spades} {4-Clubs} {3-Spades} ({4-Diamonds}).

Hansen now sits on about 27,000 in chips.

Lee Markholt Triples Up

Razz:

Lee Markholt caught a seven on sixth street to make a seven low, good enough to beat Jim Bechtel and "Miami" John Cernuto in a three-way pot. The good news is that Markholt tripled up. The less good news is that he still has just 17,500.

Wait...Who?

You'd think with a field of just 148 players, there would be considerable diversity when it comes to the names of these players...you'd be wrong. Believe it or not, it's easy for a bit of confusion to overcome the most veteran of reporter when the field you are covering includes the following:

Two Brunsons, two Mizrachis, two Hansens and a Hanson, two Trans,
two Perrys, a Harman and a Harmetz, two Allens, a Gray and a Grey, two Andys, a Tad, a Ted and a Todd, two Bills and a Billy, a Williams and a Williamson, two Darios, nine Davids, three Gregs, a ZeeJustin and SteveZ, two Joes and a Joey, six Johns and a Johnny, two Matts, three Toms and a Thomas, a Mark a Marc and a Markus, three Michaels, four Mikes and a Mickey, two Raymonds, two Roberts and a Rob, three Phils, a Philippe and a Filippi, a James, a Jim and a Jamie, a Woo and a Wong, a Chan and a Chen, a Sheikhan and a Sherkhan, an Antanas and an Antonius, an Alex and an Alexander, a Barry and a Bari, two Sextons, two Steves and a Stephen, and a Forrest, an Ivey, a Huckleberry and an Appleman.

Tim Phan Eliminated

Tim Phan
Tim Phan
Razz:

Brandon Adams: (X-X) {2-?} {8-?} {4-?} {8-?} (X)

Tim Phan: (X-X) {5-?} {7-?} {7-?} {9-?}

Kenny Tran: (X-X) {A-?} {K-?}

On fourth street Adams bet, Phan raised, Tran folded Adams reraised and Phan called. On fifth, Phan committed his last 5,500 in the dark and Adams called.

Adams showed {A-?} {3-?} {4-?} for an 8-4 low and Phan mucked as he headed for the rail.

James Mackey Takes a Pot from Farzad Bonyadi

Stud:

With his board reading {10-Clubs} {3-Clubs} {K-Clubs} James Mackey bet out and Farzad Bonyadi, showing a board of {J-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {3-Hearts}, put in a raise. Mackey called, then checked when he was dealt the {6-Diamonds} to Bonyadi's {Q-Hearts}. Bonyadi bet and Mackey check-raised, which Bonyadi called.

When the last cards were dealt Mackey bet out, was called, and showed {6-Clubs} {6-Spades} {4-Hearts} for trip sixes, good enough to get Bonyadi to muck.
