Pros Still Hanging Tough in Today's Field

As we begin to make an approach to the money, there are many pros still in this event. Allen Kessler, Linda Johnson, Scott Clements, Perry Friedman, Jimmy Fricke, Robert Mizrachi, Rolf Slotboom, Mark Gregrorich, Paul Wolfe, and James Van Alstyne all remain in today's field. With only around 135 players remaining, there is a great chance we will see one or more professionals at the final table.

Mark Goes Wild

Just prior to the break, on a flop of J-6-8 Mark Wilds opened with the first bet and was called by both Sam Hapak and Paul Wolfe.

The turn brought a 3 and again Wilds led out with a bet which was called by his two opponents.

The river landed a 9 and once again the bet of Wilds was called down as he showed {A-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}, which was good enough to scoop both the high and the low, as both of his opponents mucked their cards.

With this pot Mark Wilds moves into the chip lead with over 80,000.

John Parker hails from Topeka, Kansas, and has a more interesting story than most. He is competing in today's event despite being legally blind. John suffers from a degenerative illness called severe bilateral optic neuritis, a condition he has suffered with since the age of 20, when he was hit in the face with a ball while refereeing a soccer match.

John holds his cards very close to his eyes to read them, and relies on the assistance of the dealer to announce all of the action. John is having no problems at the tables today, where he currently sits with about 13,000. His biggest problem is actually in the hallways where he relies on the assistance of a friend to work his way through mass of people.

This is John's first-ever WSOP event. "I'm just thrilled. I'm very grateful to be here," he said.

John continues to work with the blind and when away from the tables he successfully coaches a blind baseball team. We wish John all the best in today's event and in the future.

Poker, Poker--It's All Skill....

Richard Ashby just eliminated a player at his table. His opponent had gone all in preflop with {A-Hearts} {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds} {7-Clubs}. Ashby held {5-Clubs} {K-Spades} {K-Clubs} {6-Hearts}. The board came {3-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {A-Clubs} {4-Spades}. The river gave Ashby a six-high straight with a six-low. After the hand, Ashby's opponent said, "Oh my God. You can't beat luck."

Ashby then proceeded to win the next pot as well to move his stack to around 52,000.
