S.H.O.R.N.P.E.T?

As you might have noticed, some of the visitors to our "Shout Box" have been devising some creative acronyms for today's mix of games. Well, they're not alone.

Chris Reslock just handed one of our field reporters his own list, with the "P" standing for pot-limit Omaha and the "N" for no-limit hold'em.

How about S.H.O.R.N.P.E.T.? Or S.T.E.P.H.O.R.N.? Maybe H.O.R.N.P.E.S.T? Or S.H.O.P.R.E.N.T.?

Suggestions are welcome.

Greenstein vs. Lisandro

Jeff Lisandro
Jeff Lisandro
Stud:

Barry Greenstein {10-Clubs} {J-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {A-Clubs}

Jeffrey Lisandro {J-Spades} {4-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} {3-Clubs}

Barry Greenstein bet out on every street and was called down each time by Jeffrey Lisandro. On seventh, Greenstein finally slowed down and check-called a bet from Lisandro. Lisandro turned up {J-Clubs} {4-Spades} {9-Hearts} for two pair and Greenstein mucked.

After the hand, Greenstein was down to 10,000 while Lisandro's stack grew to 24,800.

No Chips, No Chair

One player who is still looking for her seat is WSOP bracelet winner Katja Thater.

"How can I win? I have no chair" she remarked, pointing to an empty spot in her assigned seat at Table 24. "No chips AND no chair!"

So that Whole 20-Minute Thing? Not So Much

I think everyone, players, dealers and reporters alike were confused about the complex structure that has been instituted for this first-of-its-kind event. But things seem to have settled down quite a bit.

For instance the whole 20 minutes for flop games/20 for stud games/20 for NLHE and PLO structural oddity seems to be just that. The games are simply rotating every eight hands no matter where the clock happens to be.

I spoke with Tournament Director Jack Effel and he confirmed that the 20-minute sub-levels were never part of the plan for today, despite rumors to the contrary.

Chips Subtracted From Late Add Watkinson

In Omaha-8, after four players limp to see a flop of {4-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}, Lee Watkinson bets out and is called by two players. The turn is the {A-Clubs} and all players check. The river is the {8-Diamonds}. A player in the small blind bets and Watkinson calls.
The small blind shows {6-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} and Watkinson mucks. Watkinson is down to 12,000.

Clairvoyants on Table 6

Omaha-8:

Robert Williamson III and Chau Giang were facing off in an Omaha-8 hand when Williamson called for the {2-Hearts} on the turn. BAM! The {2-Hearts} hit! One street later, Giang started calling for the {A-Spades} on the river. BAM! The {A-Spades} hit!

Several minutes later, the whole table was still buzzing about the apparent clairvoyant abilities of their opponents.
