Spets Checks Dark, Rivers Nuts

Age Spets
Age Spets
Age Spets has just found a nice double up to eliminate an opponent early on day one of the Main Event.

Four players took a flop of {2-Spades}{8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} and from the small blind Spets check-called the 600 chip bet from the preflop aggressor. The turn brought the {A-Clubs} and Spets check-called a bet of 1,600 from his opponent. Spets then checked in the dark as the river landed the {A-Spades}. His opponent fired 3,000 and Spets moved all in. His opponent made the call with {A-Diamonds}{9-Spades} for trip aces, but Spets showed {A-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for a full house to double up to over 37,000 chips.

Sebok Submerged in Sci-Fi

Joe Sebok - Event #3
Joe Sebok - Event #3
Joe Sebok has been reading the sci-fi classic Ender's Game throughout most of level 1. With headphones on and his head bobbing to a constant beat, Sebok seems quite focused on the novel, rarely looking up from it to get a read on his opponents. We'll see if this risky strategy pays off, or ends up being a "game ender" for Sebok.

Need To Look a Little Bit Closer...

With the board reading {2-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} Noah Boeken called a 3,000 bet on the river from the player in the small blind. It was time for the showdown and the small blind said, "Ace high," and showed {A-Clubs} {2-Diamonds}. Boeken turned over {3-Hearts} {3-Spades} and said, "Full house. You scared me for a second".

Before pushing the pot to Boeken the dealer pointed out to the other player, "Sir, you had two pair," as the player seemed to overlook that he'd paired his deuce and the board paired fives. Would he have bluffed at the pot had he realized he held a stronger hand? That will remain another of the world's unsolved mysteries.

The Best Kind of Bluff

Steven Ware
Steven Ware
Steven "Cornell Fiji" Ware raised to 250 from the button, a player in the small blind reraised to 750, and Ware called.

The flop came {Q-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}. The small blind bet 900, and Ware called. The turn was the {3-Clubs}. This time the SB checked, Ware bet 900, and his opponent called.

The river was the {5-Diamonds}. The SB checked, and Ware overbet 6,200. His opponent called, at which point Ware sheepishly said "Ace-high." His opponent showed {Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for queens.

Then Ware showed his cards -- {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts} -- and realized he'd backed into the straight on the end. Ware is now up to 33,000.

It's All About Me

Well it's all about Tom Dwan actually. He seems to be involved in over half the hands at his table and is scaring the hell out of his opponents.

In this latest hand he called an opponent's raise from late position whilst in the big blind. He then led out on every street finally getting his opponent to fold on the river.

The board ended up reading as {10-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} {J-Hearts}.

He could have made a straight, a flush so no wonder his opponent folded as most random hands would match up bad against that board. Asked to show his hand, Dwan allowed one to be turned over. The dealer randomly turned up the {3-Hearts}!! Where does that card fit in?

Juha Helppi Claims First Victim

Don't Mess With the Helppi
Don't Mess With the Helppi
The big blind was already all in on a flop of {10-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} {3-Hearts} while Juha Helppi and the small blind continued betting on the side. The small blind checked, Helppi fired out 2,000 and the small blind folded. And the cards are turned up...

Helppi {4-Hearts} {5-Hearts}

Big Blind {A-Hearts} {Q-Spades}

The turn was the {3-Clubs} pairing up Helppi and the river was the {2-Spades} filling his open-ended straight draw. Helppi dragged the pot, increasing his stack to 20,500 and the big blind was eliminated.

Wild Perry

Perry in Event #50, $10,000 Pot Limit Omaha
Perry in Event #50, $10,000 Pot Limit Omaha
Ralph Perry raises to 300 from middle position and three players call.

The flop is {J-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}. It's checked to the cutoff who bets 750. The button calls and Perry calls.

The turn is {2-Hearts} and everyone checks to the button, who bets 1,300. Perry check-raises to 6,000 and everyone folds. Perry's got 25,000.

Noah Boeken
Noah Boeken
After a middle-position player raised to 300, Noah Boeken and the player in the cutoff called the raise. The player on the button then made it 1,500 to go, enough to make the original raiser throw his cards away. Boeken had other plans--he reraised to 4,000 and after the cutoff mucked, the player who'd made the big raise also capitulated. Boeken picked up a nice pot without ever seeing the flop.
