"It's Time For the Main Event of the Evening!"

Everyone had to sweat the desert heat on their way in to the Rio today, but there are a couple of "Icemen" here today who hope to put the freeze on their fellow opponents.

Immediately after he found his seat, we spotted Teddy "The Iceman" Monroe, but he may have some competition that is more fierce than he was prepared for.

Over in the ESPN Featured Table area, another man of the cold, Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell of UFC fame is looking to put his table in a headlock.

We're not sure who would win in a cage fight between the two Icemen, but we know who would announce it. Just a couple tables over from Teddy sits "the veteran voice of the octagon," Bruce Buffer, the main ring announcer of UFC. In the words of Buffer, "We are liiiiiiiive" here in the Amazon Room and are keenly interested in how these three players in particular will fare.

Here's a small list of players who have begun the day in the Poker Room and/or Buzio's Seafood Restaurant.

Amir Vahedi (event #29) looking to do well on day 1d, cigar and all
The Brasilia room is packed full today. Some of the notable names in the field are:

Ryan Young
Tim Vance
Lou Esposito
Sully Erna
Eskimo Clark
Jose Canseco
Amir Vahedi
Phil Gordon
Erik Cajelais
David Williams
Hevad Khan

There are still a bunch of empty seats that should be filled in soon enough. Some of the big pros tend to arrive late to the event. We'll keep you posted as to when they show up.

The Champ Is Here!

Jerry Yang
Jerry Yang
Today's field includes none other than the 2007 WSOP Main Event winner and defending champion Jerry Yang.

Last year Jerry overcame 6,357 other players to take down the biggest prize in poker and $8.25 million in cash.

Jerry hasn't let fame and fortune go to his head, maintaining his humility as he carried the honor of poker's world champion for the past 12 months.

Jerry is back today to try and do it all over again this year, but it won't be easy, as the cameras swarm his table with all eyes centered on him.

Think I'll Wait for the Fourth Day One

So thought a lot of folks.

Shane "Shaniac" Schleger and Joe Pelton are here and at the same table. And Layne Flack and Antonio Esfandiari are also tablemates.

Also among those here in the Brasilia Room: Scott Clements, Dan Shak, Tom Schneider, Ryan Daut, and Eugene Todd, bro.

'Dolly' Comes Out Guns Blazin'

An under-the-gun player raised to 300, and Doyle Brunson made the call. On a flop of {K-Spades} {3-Hearts} {3-Spades}, Brunson checked to his opponent, who bet out 400. Brunson made the call. The turn of the {K-Diamonds} was checked around. When the river card of the {A-Spades} hit, Brunson fired out 1,200 and his opponent folded.

After the hand, Brunson departed out the room for a short break.

Don't Hold Your Breath

There's a woman sitting in the Blue section of the Amazon Room wearing a t-shirt that reads "Norm's Next Wife." Norman Chad recently walked by her table, drawing squeals of delight from the player. She bounded out of her chair, ran over to Chad and gave him a big hug while a friend took a photo. She then asked Chad to marry her.

"I'll get back to you," said a bemused Chad.

And Then There Were...Ten?

We knew today would have the biggest field of all the starting days, but it looks like it might be bigger than anyone imagined--because we've started out playing ten-handed. That's caused some confusion at some tables as dealers had to be sure to put to button in the correct position and make sure that everyone was in the right seat. So the players are in especially close quarters at the start of play today.

An Eerie Silence

Yesterday we reported about the lack of noise and emotion coming from players within the Amazon room and today seems to be the same. There is very little energy here, with most players socializing very little.

Players seem focused and down to business. Maybe it's due to the early hour, but one thing's for sure - it is quiet in here!
