The Case of the Case Ace

We spoke to Ryan Elson just before the beginning of Level 7. He was short-stacked, but said he thought it would be a good couple of hours coming up.

A player at his table raised to 2,000 from middle position, and Elson thought a bit before calling him from the cutoff. That left Elson only about 11,000 or so behind.

The flop came {6-Clubs}{A-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and Elson's opponent quickly checked. Elson sat in contemplation for a minute or so, then decided to push all in. "Call," came his opponent's response, a bit too quickly for comfort.

Elson had {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} for top pair. But his opponent held {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}. "Clubs!" said Elson. Alas, the turn brought the {J-Diamonds} and the river the {4-Hearts}, and Elson's day was done.

He shook hands with several at the table. "Nice hand, brother!" he told his opponent in the hand with a smile.

And the tournament goes on. Elson is one of over 600 players who we've seen eliminated already today.
