Hellmuth Flops Trips

Sit up straight, now
Sit up straight, now
Just before players headed off for their hard-earned dinner break, Phil Hellmuth got himself involved with an opponent who raised preflop to 900. Hellmuth called, and they saw a {K-Spades} {K-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} flop, which they both checked.

They saw an {8-Spades} turn which was checked to Hellmuth; this time he bet 700, and his opponent called.

Come the {9-Spades} river, it checked once again to Hellmuth, who this time bet 1,350. "Pass," announced his opponent. "Don't do that," begged Hellmuth, but it was done. Hellmuth showed him {A-Hearts} {K-Hearts}. Up to 12,700.

Shak Doubles Up, Busts Out

Beth Shak is right back up to her starting stack. A short-stacked gentleman got his chips in preflop with {9-Hearts} {9-Diamonds}, but Shak woke up with {K-Spades} {K-Diamonds} and a complete absence of nines and so on on the board sent the gentleman home and put Shak up to 6,100.

-------

But wait! Breaking news just in: Beth Shak is now out.

She limped in the cutoff and the small blind squeezed. "Let me just tell you that this is not the best call if I make it," said she, and then called anyway.

Shak: {K-Clubs} {Q-Clubs}
Small blind: {A-Hearts} {7-Hearts}

Board: {K-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} {7-Spades} {Q-Hearts}

For a happy moment Shak thought she'd won the hand, but then realized her mistake with great sorrow. Off she goes.

No More Naujoks

Look into my eyes...
Look into my eyes...
This tournament just got a little less easy on the eye as Sandra Naujoks has busted out with {K-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} on the turn of a {K-Clubs} {6-Spades} {7-Clubs} {8-Clubs} board. Her opponent had aces, though, and without any miracle straights, trips or similar on the completely blank river, she is gone.

We're Chip Counting

Bracelet for some reason not in this shot.
Bracelet for some reason not in this shot.
Neil Channing: 0 ("It wasn't really my day...")
TJ Cloutier: 16,800
Perry Friedman: 21,000
Jim Meehan: 16,200
Scott Montgomery: 24,000
Shannon Shorr: 13,000
Bill Gazes: 11,200
Jan von Halle: 4,600
J.C. Tran: 11,600
Kathy Liebert: 9,000
Tom McEvoy: 11,700
Jason Mercier: a whopping 47,000, much of this due to a curious hand where he held pocket queens against an opponent's raggy ace. An ace on the flop, but a queen on the river. He is, incidentally, wearing his shiny new gold bracelet.

Not Shedding Chips

One Cody Shedd has killed two poker-playing birds with one stone in a three-way all in confrontation on an {8-?} {5-?} {7-?} {A-?} {9-?} board. Not sure exactly how this all came to pass as I only caught the very tail end of the hand, but Shedd's pocket nines were good against his opponents' respective {A-?} {4-?} and {8-?} {7-?}.
