Seabeast Caught

Jay "Seabeast" Kinkade somehow managed to get his last in with {K-Spades} {6-Spades} against Eric Neal's {K-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} -- already drawing thin, and drawing dead come the flushalicious {J-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} flop. The Seabeast swims away none the richer.

Take It Liy-ing Down

Liya - will Gerasimova it eventually
Liya - will Gerasimova it eventually
It's that time in the tournament -- they're dropping like flies now.

Liya Gerasimova is our latest casualty, getting her chips in most confidently with {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} but finding herself up against some rather unexpected pocket aces. A queen-free board later, and we are down one Russian.

T-Shirt of the Day

Said t-shirt, on the back of Mr Adam Sanborn, proclaims him to be "World Champion of Everything". We at Pokernews approve of this kind of confidence. Although on 10,000 or so, he should probably start getting those chips in if he wants to be World Champion of the $2,000 No Limit Hold'em event...

Mercier in No Danger at All

Does anyone remember Poochie from the Itchy & Scratchy Show?
Does anyone remember Poochie from the Itchy & Scratchy Show?
Jason Mercier has dropped a little from his former 50,000-and-chip-leader perch -- he's down to 40,000 after doubling up another player.

Mercier: {A-Hearts} {Q-Spades}
Other Player: {J-Clubs} {J-Spades}

Board: {10-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {K-Spades} {4-Clubs} {2-Spades}

With the average stack at around 23,500, though, 40,000 still constitutes a very healthy stack and he won't be going anywhere for a while.

Break Time!

It's our last 20 minute break of the day, and the green 25 chips are being raced off even as I type.

A few breaktime chip counts...

T.J. Cloutier: 32,000
Thanh Chau: 112,500 and still our chip leader
Phil Hellmuth: 28,000
Captain Tom Franklin: 22,000
Tommy Pope: 85,000
William Martin: 22,000
Tom McEvoy: 12,500
Kathy Liebert: 9,100
Maridu Mayrinck: 27,000

We'll be back in 20 to play ouy the last two levels of the night.

Level: 9

Blinds: 400/800

Ante: 100

Perry not so Merry

Still smiling, though
Still smiling, though
Just before the break, Perry Friedman found himself involved in a rather upsetting three-way pot. The gent on the cutoff raised all in for not many chips, and the gent on the button called. Over to big blind Friedman, who announced all in. Eventually the button called, and they were on their backs, Friedman well ahead.

Friedman: {Q-Spades} {Q-Hearts}
Cutoff: a rather optimistic {2-Hearts} {3-Hearts}
Button: {8-Spades} {8-Diamonds}

Board: an unbelievably exciting {K-Hearts} {6-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {4-Hearts} to give Mr Cutoff a flush, taking the main pot, and Mr Button a straight to take the sizable side pot.

"WOO!" declared Mr Button. "WOO! WOO!" and banged his fist on the table in a rather ungentlemanly manner. It was loud and brash enough for one of the floormen to upbraid him: "Sir, there is no need to beat the furniture."

Friedman is down to 23,000.
