Event 17 - $1,000 Ladies World Championship

Day 1 Completed

The Ladies Are Done for the Night!

Chip Leader Tamara Tibbles
Chip Leader Tamara Tibbles
We saw 1,060 lovely ladies take to the felt today, and when the chips were bagged there were only 146 remaining.

Evelyn Ng, Kirsty Gazes, Tiffany Michelle, Maya Gellar and Katja Thater were just some of the names to start the day - but they would all find a place on the rail by day's end.

Tamara Tibbles took the chip lead after dinner break, and never let go -- peaking at 130,000 before finishing the day with 129,700. Even with a clear chip lead over her next rival, Tibbles will have to keep a look out for the previous Champion Svetlana Gromenkova (62,800), Patti Zarosky (51,000), Lisa Parsons (46,300) and Lauren Kling (44,200).

Maria Ho (24,800) and JJ Liu (38,300) still have their chance at capturing their first bracelet and first WSOP cash of the series, as both will be aiming for the $195,390 first prize, gold bracelet and title of Ladies World Champion!

Make sure to check out PokerNews tomorrow at 2pm local time to catch all the live coverage of Day 2 action including rivered flushes, turned straights and flopped sets!

Wroblewski Wrobbles Out

Wroblewski falls
Wroblewski falls
We noticed Anna Wroblewski quickly leave her chair to scurry out of the tournament area, and as she passed our PokerNews reporter she stopped for a chat.

What we learned? Wroblewski pushed her few remaining thousand into the pot with a pair of sixes and was called by {A-?}{J-?}.

She didn't give the board details, but we can only assume its one of several hands - a counterfeited ace-high, pair, two-pair, trips, straight, flush, full house, quads, straight flush or a royal . . . I guess we'll never know.

Christina Lindley Eliminated

Christina Lindley has been eliminated at the hands of a three-player mash.

Lindley: {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Opponent: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}

The flop of {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{10-Hearts} left Lindley drawing extremely slim, and when the {A-Diamonds} fell on the turn two players would hit the rail.

The meaningless {5-Spades} on the river had landed after both girls had said their goodbyes and were half-way out the door.

Abarbanel Clipped

One-time chip leader Brett Abarbanel has seen close to half her stack shipped to another player when her {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} was unable to outdraw {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}.

The board ran out {4-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} to see Abarbanel slip to 42,000 and change.

Kling Culls Two

Lauren Kling has just sent an opponent to the rail when her {A-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} outdrew against a pair of jacks.

The board fell {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{3-Clubs} to see Kling climb to 30,000 in chips. She then took on another with her {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} besting her opponent's {K-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} on a final board of {J-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{10-Spades}, with all the money in on the flop.

After her little tear-away, Kling settled with a few folds as she stacked her chips into over 43,000.

Recent Eliminations

With the field starting to condense we have found some of our notable ladies missing from their seat and headed to the rail.

Lisa Schaffner and Maureen Feduniak have all been eliminated with many more expected as play closes in for the night.

Jett Doubles

With all the money going in preflop, it would be Karina Jett's {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} out in front of her opponent's {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}.

The board fell {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} to see Jett double to 15,000 in chips and spark a comment from Maridu Mayrinck of, "Look who's back in business!"
