Champa Will Not Be Champion

We have a new chip leader in the form of Mari Lou Morelli on 205,000.

Monica Champa raised to 20,000 and Morelli just flatted from the small blind; they proceeded to a ten-high flop. All the chips went in, and Champa turned over her {A-?} {10-?} to discover that she was drawing pretty thin against Morelli's pocket aces, and drawing dead when another ace came on the turn. Down to mere shrapnel, Morelli knocked out the hapless Champa a hand or two later.

Blair Finds Jacks

Deb Blair has enjoyed a boost to her stack -- Lauren Kling raised to 8,000 only for another player to move all in for 21,700 from the small blind. Blair re-shoved from the big blind, Kling ducked out of their way, and it was a mere matter of her jacks holding up that lay between her and her new 80,000 stack.

Blair: {J-Hearts} {J-Diamonds}
Hapless, now-busted opponent: {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds}

Board: {Q-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {6-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {4-Hearts}

Mayrinck Flips, Busts

Maridun good
Maridun good
Disaster for Maridu Mayrinck. She lost an enormous pot with {A-?} {Q-?} versus pocket queens, and then attempted to go all in as soon as her cards were dealt to her -- but was informed that she was in the big blind. "Oh s***, did I just kill my own action?" she sighed. But Angel Pedroza woke up with {A-Clubs} {K-Clubs} and raised; Mayrinck, making the inevitable call, was holding {6-Clubs} {6-Spades} and was coinflipping, but witness the sickest of sick boards...

Board: {5-Spades} {9-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {J-Clubs} {4-Clubs}

Ouch. Mayrinck is out, and the Pedroza stack continues to grow.

Lucia's Armor Pierced

Lucia Pierce is busto. Apparently she had been shoving a lot, but this time when she shoved from the button she got looked up by Angel Pedroza in the small blind.

Pierce: {A-Clubs} {J-Hearts}
Pedroza: {Q-Clubs} {Q-Hearts}

"Oh no! You're not going to beat me twice in a row!" wailed Pierce, but oh yes she was...

Board: an ace-free {2-Clubs} {4-Hearts} {8-Spades} {9-Spades} {3-Clubs}

Pierce is out, and Pedroza is up to a comfortable 98,000.

Going the Houle Hog

Cindy Hillis raised to 9,000 from the button, only for Donna Houle to move in from the small blind for a mere 7,900 more. Hillis looked most unhappy about it, but made the call, and it was an easy double up for Houle.

Hillis: {Q-Diamonds} {K-Hearts}
Houle: {A-Clubs} {A-Diamonds}

Board: {8-Clubs} {8-Spades} {5-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} {9-Spades}

With a heartfelt, "Thank you," to Hillis, Houle doubled to around 35,000.

Staying Burkhead of the Game - But Not for Long

Debbie Burkhead doubled up to 20,000, her {J-Diamonds} {9-Spades} coming good against Patti Zarosky's {A-Diamonds} {10-Spades} on a {J-Spades} {9-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {8-Spades} {2-Diamonds} board.

However, still firmly in the danger zone after that double up, she came a cropper a few hands later when she found herself all in with {K-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} and up against another player's {K-Hearts} {Q-Spades}. No help at all from the {10-Spades} {3-Diamonds} {7-Spades} {5-Hearts} {5-Spades} board and Burkhead is out of here.
