Pescatori Sticks Around

Max Pescatori
Max Pescatori
Sometimes thin draws come in -- don't they, Max Pescatori? Pescatori was all in pre-draw for 22,000 and called by Archie Karas. Karas stood pat, prompting Pescatori to draw one.

Karas then showed Pescatori what he had to beat: 8-7-6-5-2. Pescatori opened 8-7-6-2. He needed a three or four to win, or a five to chop the pot. Nothing else would help him. He squeezed out a four to drag the pot.

Pescatori is still short with about 60,000 chips.

Jean-Robert Bellande Eliminated on Bubble

JRB - Bubble Boy
JRB - Bubble Boy
On the very next hand, Jean-Robert Bellande opened to 20,000. Action passed to Vince Musso in the big blind, who moved all in. Bellande called. Both players drew one card.

"I would say good luck, but $17,000 means a lot to me," said Bellande. "And I know you know that." Bellande then added that what Musso didn't know was that he had been staked.

Each player opened his hand. Bellande showed 9-7-5-2; Musso tabled 7-6-3-2. Musso pulled a 9 to make 9-7-6-3-2. That left Bellande looking for a 3, a 4, or a 6 to stay alive. He pulled an 8, shook Musso's hand, and left the table and the tournament as the bubble boy.

JRB Doubles

"Just pair the ten or the nine," said Jean Robert Bellande to Vince Musso. Bellande was all in before the draw, with Musso calling. Each player drew one card and then opened their hands. Musso showed 10-9-5-4 against Bellande's 7-6-3-2.

"I might have," replied Musso as he squeezed. It was four-across, but an 8; Musso made a 10-9-8-5-4. That moved the action to Bellande, who uncermeoniously flipped over his draw card -- also an 8, for 8-7-6-3-2. Bellande doubled up to 70,000.

8-7 OK for Karas

Archie Karas opened for 17,000 from the cutoff and Steve Sung made the call from the button. Karas drew two cards while Sung took one.

Karas led out for 50,000 after the draw and Sung made the call. Karas turned up 8-7-5-4-2 to take down the pot and send his stack up to 220,000. Sung was left with 160,000.
