Ivey Leads From The Front

The pots are just getting bigger and bigger! Another big multi-way pot has seen Phil Ivey chip up after the pot was chopped.

Ivey tabled {7-Spades}{5-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}({Q-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}) for two pair for the high to chop with an opponent showing {7-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} ({A-?}{6-?}{4-?}) for the low.

Ivey moves up 85,000 chips.

Clements Goes from Grain to Bowl of Rice, then Back to Grain

Clements: Riding the pokercoaster
Clements: Riding the pokercoaster
Scott Clements was in 'wait for it...wait for it...all-in as soon as possible in limit format' mode with just 4,600. Fortunately for him, the game had just switched to Omaha hi-lo and the antes weren't eroding his stack at every hand for a short while. He bided his time for two hands, then raised preflop over utg limper who was probably Stuart Spivack, if my seating plan can still be relied upon.

Clements raised by throwing his remaining stack over the line - but this being limit it actually took until the turn for him to get the full call out of Spivack.

Clements: {3-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}
Spivack: {3-Spades} {5-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} {10-Spades}

The board: {5-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} {7-Diamonds}
At this point Clements had the low already, but two little pair were beating his Kings with flush and straight draws. The {K-Clubs} on the river cemented his scoop, though, and he was back to 11k.

Almost immediately thereafter, Carol Kline all but busted him in a Stud hand, making a straight and a six-low and leaving him with an-all-but-felted 100! What a day.

Going Dutch

Carlos Mortensen has taken a hit in an interesting multi-way Omaha-8 hand that went the way of Dutch Boyd.

With raises preflop and on the flop, the turn was checked as three players saw the river fall to produce a board of {10-Hearts}{8-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}.

The action checked to Mortensen who fired a bet with just Boyd making the call. Mortensen rolled over {A-?}{2-?}{3-?}{7-?} for a busted low draw as Boyd scooped with {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}{9-Spades}{5-Spades} for a pair of aces.

Boyd is up to 80,000 with Mortensen back to 30,000.

Chau Did He Miss With That?!

Giang, pictured running better in the prior PLO8 tournament
Giang, pictured running better in the prior PLO8 tournament
Chau Giang, with a chunky stack over 60k, just got himself in a great position against not one but two all-in short stacks on fourth street. He flipped his whole hand so that they could see what they were up against: {A-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} . Winces all round from the both of them whose hands were nowhere near as promising.

Fifth for Giang: {5-Spades}
Sixth: {9-Spades}
Seventh: {10-Clubs}

Amazingly a pair of eights from one of the short stacks scooped this pot, busting the other one. "What are the odds of that?" asked an incredulous tablemate. Giang just smiled and shook his head.

Harman Chips Up

Jennifer Harman
Jennifer Harman
Jennifer Harman and Gavin Smith have just chopped a pot of Stud-8 with Harman collecting the high with two pair as Smith made an eight-low. After the hand there was some confusion by the dealer as to who should get the extra chip in the pot. It was tossed to Smith, but then corrected to be given to Harman.

"See how many chips he has...I need every chip I can get!" laughed Harman, as the dealer still seemed confused.

However Harman didn't have to worry about needing chips a few minutes later as she scooped a pot to eliminate a short-stacked player. The action folded around to Harman who attacked the bring-in. Her opponent raised and led the betting on fourth street before being all in on fifth.

Harman: ({9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}) {6-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{8-Hearts} ({9-Clubs})
Opponent: ({10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}) {3-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} (X)

Harman improved dramatically to make a full house and leave her opponent headed for the rail. She's now up to about 28,000 chips.

Ivey Loses Pot

Yes, that's news today seeing as he's looked unstoppable since play resumed. He's suffered a knock back from 83k to 74k after getting to the river in Stud hi-lo showing [XXX]{10-Hearts} {K-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} vs. Mr. Opponent's shown down [{A-Spades} {7-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} ] {3-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} {6-Hearts} {7-Hearts} which was enough to get a muck from the erstwhile chip leader.

Can Hua-lves Stack

Start of day chip leader Can Hua is down to just 26k after levels 9 and 10 didn't go his way at all. The start of level 11 saw him lose a 16k pot to Mark Scott, too, with Scott check-raising him on the river on a board of {5-Spades} {2-Spades} {K-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {3-Spades} . Hua paused for a while before calling the final 2,400 - only to be shown {A-Diamonds} {A-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {6-Spades} for Aces and a six-low. That was good for the whole pot.
