A Double Before Dinner

Razz:

Elizabeth: 8-2 / 6-4-5-7 / 7
Opponent: 8-4 / 3-?-?-? / ?

"If anybody was ever grinding, I am," said Shannon Elizabeth to some rail birds. She was all in on third street for 1,500 chips against one opponent. Each player started out with similar hands, but it was Elizabeth who made a 7-6 to take down the pot.

Elizabeth Giving Back

Stud Hi/Lo:

Shannon Elizabeth: (X-X) {A-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} (X)
Frankie O'Dell: (X-X) {9-Clubs} {J-Clubs} {J-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} (X)

Picking up the action on fifth street, O'Dell fired a bet after Elizabeth checked to him. On sixth, both players checked and then on seventh, Elizabeth checked to O'Dell. Frankie fired a bet and Elizabeth took some time to think about her action. She eventually made the fold and said, "Every time I didn't believe someone I've been wrong, so I'm going to go with my instincts."

She is now pretty short with only about 5,000 chips left.

Changing Fortunes

Lana Maier, from Day 1 action
Lana Maier, from Day 1 action
Stud:

Kurtzman: x-x / {10-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} {6-Spades} / x
Maier: x-x / {8-Spades} {J-Clubs} {7-Spades} {8-Clubs} / x

Fortunes are slowly changing here in the back of the Brasilia Room. Eric Kurtzman started the day as the chip leader (really he did -- Sebastien Sabic's starting chip count was mistaken due to poor penmanship) but he's now solidly in the middle of the field. He seemed frustarted after a recent hand of stud against CardRunners Director of Marketing Lana Maier.

We caught the action on sixth street, where Maier check-raised Kurtzman. He tanked a fairly long time for a fixed-limit game -- about thirty seconds -- before tossing in a call. On the river Maier led out and Kurtzman called.

"Do you have a boat?" he asked.

Maier let her cards do the talking. She turned up {3-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {8-Hearts} in the hole for eights full of sevens. That pot pushed Maier's count up to 54,000 (we think - her stacks aren't even) and dropped Kurtzman to about 36,000.

Elizabeth Getting Some Life Back

Stud Hi/Lo:

John Racener: (X-X) {5-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} (X)
Shannon Elizabeth: (X-X) {7-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} {3-Spades} (X)

Racener led with bets on fourth and fifth street with Elizabeth calling down. On sixth and seventh, the action was checked by both players.

Racener rolled over {Q-?} {9-?} {9-?} in the hole for two pair, but Elizabeth showed {K-?} {8-?} {7-?} for a better two pair with kings and sevens to add some much needed chips to her stack.

More Chips for Black

It seems like Andy Black keeps dragging pots, but his count hasn't changed much today. We currently have him on about 50,000 chips after a recent elimination in the stud round. Black's board showed {A-Spades} {6-Hearts} / {A-Clubs} {J-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {J-Spades} / {4-Diamonds} for aces and jacks. We didn't get the all-in player's board; the cards came out so fast (and he mucked them just as quickly) that we couldn't get what he had. Whatever it was, it didn't beat aces up.

Reslock's Two Pair is Good

Omaha Hi/Lo:

There was some unknown action both preflop and on the flop between Archie Karas and Chris Reslock. The board read {J-Hearts} {8-Spades} {4-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} on the turn and Karas checked to Reslock. Reslock fired a bet and Karas called. The river brought the {4-Clubs} and both players checked.

Reslock showed {A-Diamonds} {J-Spades} {10-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} for two pair, jacks and fours, with an ace kicker. Karas mucked and Reslock raked in the pot.

Gaspard Starts Climbing Again

Razz:

Despite losing a recent hand, Gaspard has been quietly playing excellent poker against the rest of his table to raise his current count to about 50,000. In a recent hand of razz, Gaspard completed the {A-Clubs} and was called by Sebastien Sabic with the {4-Diamonds}. Each player caught good on fourth street, with Gaspard betting the {3-Hearts} and Sabic calling with the {2-Diamonds}. Gaspard caught good again on fifth, the {2-Hearts} against Sabic's {q-Clubs}, and took down the pot with a single bet.

Van Alstyne and Singer Chop One Up

It's James Van Alstyne, that's who
It's James Van Alstyne, that's who
Omaha Hi/Lo:

With the flop laid out {A-Clubs} {10-Spades} {3-Hearts}, two players checked to James Van Alstyne. He bet out and then David Singer popped in a raise. The other two players folded and Van Alstyne made the call.

The turn brought the {6-Hearts} to the board. Van Alstyne check-called a bet from Singer. The river was the {5-Clubs} and again, Van Alstyne check-called a bet from Singer.

Van Alstyne revealed {A-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} {7-Clubs} and Singer showed {A-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {2-Hearts}. Singer's live deuce gathered him the low pot, while Van Alstyne rivered a better two pair for the high.
