Raising Hellmuth

A player in middle position raised to 3,300, and Phil Hellmuth reraised all in behind him. Nikolay Evdakov then pushed all in himself from the small blind (Hellmuth had him covered), and the original raiser -- saying later he had pocket jacks -- folded.

Evdakov turned over {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} while Hellmuth showed {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}. "Here we go again, Jeff!" Hellmuth called across the way to Jeff Madsen.

What a flop for Hellmuth -- {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}. Evdakov was already sunk, but for the sake of completeness, we'll report the turn was the {7-Hearts} and the river the {9-Clubs}. Evdakov is out, and Hellmuth now up to 58,000.

"Phil, can I get a little bit of that?" said Madsen.

Money Matters

Players are starting to chat with one another about the prospects of our reaching the money before play concludes tonight. For a certain segment of the field, making it that far is a very specific goal. Others have set their sights a bit higher.

Too close to call right now. With 324 left, we still need a little over 100 players to be eliminated in the next 75 minutes of play to get there tonight.

Huge One for Hamby

Big pot over at Jared Hamby's table just now. Hamby had raised to 2,200 from middle position, a player reraised to 5,900 behind him, Hamby shoved all in, and his opponent called with his remaining stack of approximately 20,000.

Hamby showed {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}, and his opponent {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}. The board came {J-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{6-Spades}{9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}, and Hamby knocked out another player. He's way up to 75,000 now.

No Need to Apologize

Meanwhile across the Amazon room...

Vanessa Rousso was just eliminated after finding herself all in before the flop with pocket jacks, but running up against a player holding K-K. The board came ten-high, and Rousso is out.

"Sorry," said her opponent as the hand concluded. "Don't be sorry," she replied. "You had the best hand!"

Hellmuth Still in the Hunt

That table from earlier at which sat Phil Hellmuth, David Singer, Vanessa Rousso, and Jeff Madsen has been broken and the players sent to different places around the Amazon.

Hellmuth and Madsen ended up at adjacent tables. Recently Hellmuth was in a hand in which a player under the gun had raised to 2,200, then it folded to Hellmuth in the BB who reraised to 6,000. His opponent pushed all in, and Hellmuth called, his opponent having him covered.

Hellmuth showed {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}, and was up against {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}. The board came {J-Spades}{9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{3-Spades}{9-Diamonds}, and Hellmuth doubled back to 32,500.

"Look out, Madsen!" the Poker Brat called across the aisle.

Trip Tens Good for Wasicka

With the board showing {4-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{10-Clubs}, Paul Wasicka's opponent checked, Wasicka bet, his opponent check-raised enough to put Wasicka all in, and Wasicka made the call.

Wasicka turned over {Q-Spades}{10-Diamonds} for trip tens, while the other player revealed {A-Spades}{K-Clubs} for a pair of kings. The river was a blank, and Wasicka is back up to 31,000.

The Maven on the Move

A player in the hijack seat put in a raise, then it folded around to David "The Maven" Chicotsky who made a hefty reraise for 6,800 more.

The table folded back to the original raiser who showed an ace, then folded. Chicotsky showed an ace as well before tossing his cards to the dealer. After being down to just three big blinds earlier, Chicotsky is now up to 27,000.
