Day 2 Completed

Play Adjourned For the Night

Play began today with more than 240 players still fighting through this big field, trying to make a push for the final table. At the end of nearly 13 more hours of play, that starting number has been reduced to just twenty-one. Those twenty-one players will take their seats once again tomorrow, having outlasted enough players to punch their tickets for Day 3.

The action began at a good clip, and we found our way to the money bubble within just a few minutes. It took just a few hands to find our bubble boy -- actually two bubble boys who will split the prize money for 216th place. With the floodgates now burst, the action progressed at a furious pace, and more than half of the field would be sent home before the dinner break.

Among those who snuck into the money were Allen Cunningham, Chris Ferguson, Dennis Phillips, Thor Hansen, Paul Wasicka, and Matt Keikoan. Within the next two hours or so, Alex Kravchenko, Alex Jacob, Devin Porter, Pat Poels, and Phil Hellmuth would also take that walk of shame, but not before stopping by the payout desk to pick up a couple thousand bucks. The dinner bell sounded with just over 100 players left.

Over the course of the long night, a few players began to really distance themselves from the field. Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier was ripping through the room for much of the evening, building a towering castle of chips when most were scrounging around on their last few big blinds. After a table change that put him on Roland de Wolfe's right though, ElkY was forced to slow down a bit, ending the night in the middle of the pack with 420,000 chips. Jared "TheWacoKidd" Hamby was also running strong for much of the evening, but a late tumble would send him out the door in 27th place. At the end of the night, it was Jonas Klausen who would claim the title of chip leader, stuffing 935,000 technicolor chips into the clear plastic bag. It's not a runaway by any means though, with players like Roland de Wolfe, James Taylor, James "mig.com" Mackey, and the aforementioned ElkY all in the hunt.

Since we didn't make it all the way down to the final nine, the action will resume at 1:00pm tomorrow. After a night of rest, the remaining players will come back then to play it out the rest of the way. By this time tomorrow, we expect to have just one man left standing with a whole lot of prize money and a new piece of jewelry.

Until then, goodnight from the Amazon Room.

Bui Floats Away; Plens Plummets

Dean Bui was all in before the flop holding {6-Hearts} {10-Hearts}, and he found action from Joseph Cada who put him at risk with {A-Diamonds} {J-Hearts}.

The flop was dramatic, coming down {3-Hearts} {A-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} to give Cada his top pair but leaving Bui with outs to the flush. The {5-Clubs} on the turn was a blank though, as was the river {J-Diamonds}.

Failing to hit a heart, Dean Bui has made his exit in 23rd place.

Shortly afterwards, in one of the last hands of the night, Jonathan Plens was eliminated in 22nd place.

My Name is Jonas

Steven Ayoub moved all in before the flop for 155,000, and Jonas Klausen made the call, having his opponent well covered and at risk of elimination.

Showdown
Ayoub: {A-Spades} {9-Diamonds}
Klausen: {A-Hearts} {K-Hearts}

The board ran dry for the all-in player, coming {3-Hearts} {7-Clubs} {3-Spades} {8-Spades} {4-Hearts}. Klausen's ace-king high is plenty good to win the pot, chipping him all the way up to 920,000 and sending Steven Ayoub out the door in 25th place.

Robert Merulla followed Ayoub to the payout desk, going out right behind him in 24th place.

Topias Hits the Wahlbeck

Topias Wahlbeck moved all in with his very short stack, and Steven Ayoub raised to 50,000. Action came to Pete Kevorkian, and he moved all in for 66,000 himself, working with a short stack after a tumble down the leader board. Ayoub called to put both players at risk.

Showdown
Wahlbeck: {Q-Spades} {4-Hearts}
Ayoub: {K-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}
Kevorkian: {A-Hearts} {10-Hearts}

The board would run {8-Hearts} {5-Clubs} {6-Spades} {A-Clubs} {2-Hearts}. Kevorkian wins the whole pot with his pair of aces, more than doubling up to 145,000. Ayoub has taken a step back to 375,000, and Topias Wahlbeck is out in 26th place, walking away with just over $15,000.

Big One for Baldwin

As Hal Hall and Jared Hamby were being eliminated, another big hand was taking place between Eric Baldwin and Pete Kevorkian. The pair got all of Baldwin's chips in the middle after a flop of {K-Hearts}{6-Spades}{10-Clubs}, and the two players revealed their hands. Kevorkian had pocket tens for middle set, but Baldwin had pocket kings for top set.

The turn brought the {K-Diamonds}, giving Baldwin quads and the large pot. He's up to 540,000 now, while Kevorkian is now down below 100,000.

After all of that action, the remaining 26 players are presently redrawing for seats around the final three tables.

Hamby Fades Away

Jared Hamby - Out
Jared Hamby - Out
Hal Hall was eliminated in 28th place. While that hand was finishing, the following hand took place.

Jared Hamby had been whittled all the way down to about 140,000, and he got the rest of that stack into the pot before the flop. Steven Bradbury was his foe for this fateful hand, tabling {A-Diamonds} {A-Clubs}. Hamby was drawing slim with {5-Clubs} {5-Hearts}.

The board would run down {6-Clubs} {7-Hearts} {J-Clubs} {8-Spades} {Q-Spades}, holding Bradbury's aces and sending Hamby to the payout desk a little earlier than he'd hoped in 27th place.

Welcome Turn for Roland

After a flop of {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{7-Hearts} and about 55,000 already in the pot, Roland de Wolfe got the last of his 125,000 chips in the middle with {Q-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}, and was up against Marc Whitford's {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}.

The turn brought de Wolfe his needed heart -- {3-Hearts} -- giving him the flush. The river was the {6-Spades}, and de Wolfe is back up to 300,000. Whitford is now down to 40,000.

"Good Raise, Buddy"

Jonas Klausen raised from under the gun, and Sean Mullaghy called from the button. Thanhdat Tran then reraised all in for his last 200,000 or so from the big blind. Klausen responded by shoving his big stack (about half a million) in over the top, and Mullaghy thought about it for just a few seconds before folding, showing his {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs} as he did.

"Good raise, buddy," Mullaghy told Klausen afterwards, once the other two players' hands were revealed. That's because Klausen had {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}, and Tran {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}.

The board came {J-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}, and Klausen knocked out Tran in 29th place. Klausen is now the new chip leader with 780,000.
