Bad Timing for Nguyen

Benjamin Scholl opened with an under the gun raise, and action passed all the way around to the big blind. Looking down at {K-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}, Peter Nguyen moved all in for right at 80,000. Scholl instantly called, and the news wasn't good for Nguyen; his opponent tabled {A-Clubs} {A-Spades} to put him in serious danger of extinction.

The board would provide no help either, coming {9-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} {5-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs}. Failing to improve, Nguyen has walked slowly toward the payout desk with his little red slip of consolation.

Slaubaugh Bounces Back

After building a big stack earlier, Cody Slaubaugh had slipped back down under the 100,000-chip mark before the following hand with Domenico de Notaristefani.

The table had folded around to de Notaristefani who pushed all in for 43,000 from the small blind with {Q-Hearts}{2-Hearts}. Unfortunately for him, Slaubaugh woke up in the BB with {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}. The board came {5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}, de Notaristefani is out. Slaubaugh is back to 120,000.

Ayoub Flushes; Sawitzki Needs Help

Pete Sawitzki got the rest of his ~75,000 chips into the pot with {Q-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} on a flop of {5-Hearts} {6-Clubs} {7-Clubs}. Steven Ayoub was right there to put him to the test, turning over {J-Clubs} {9-Clubs} for a flush draw with gutshot straight outs too.

The turn was a disaster as Ayoub pulled the {5-Clubs} off the deck, making the flush to pull ahead in the hand. Sawitzki still had outs though, and the {Q-Diamonds} that spiked the river was indeed one of those help cards.

He makes queens full on the last card, winning the pot to double up to 155,000. Ayoub has slipped a bit, but he's still sitting comfortably with a stack of 275,000.

ElkY Bitten by De Wolfe

Roland de Wolfe
Roland de Wolfe
Roland de Wolfe limped in from under the gun, as did two players behind him. The small blind completed, and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier checked from the big blind.

The flop came {7-Hearts}{J-Spades}{K-Spades}. Grospellier bet 11,000, de Wolfe called, and the others got out of the way. The turn was the {2-Hearts}, and both players checked.

The river brought the {3-Spades}. ElkY bet 18,500, and de Wolfe didn't waste much time sliding out a tall stack of orange chips, a few yellows, and a couple of blues -- a raise to 81,000.

Grospellier sat back, eyebrows raised, and contemplated de Wolfe's bet. After about thirty seconds, he made the call. De Wolfe turned over {A-Spades}{Q-Spades} for the nut flush, and Grospellier mucked.

Now De Wolfe has about 360,000, and Grospellier slips to 240,000.

Hold Everything

We've reached the end of another level, and it's time for a 20-minute break. During that time, all of the black T100 and most of the purple T500 chips are being colored up and raced off.

I've Seen Fire and I've Seen Rain

It's actually raining outside the Rio at the moment (or so we hear). Has been for some time, apparently. But we're mostly just seeing fire in here right now over at James Taylor's table, as he continues to run red hot.

Taylor just now knocked out yet another opponent -- Nils Bardsley. Taylor's {K-Clubs}{K-Spades} outlasted Bardsley's {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} after the community cards came nine-high.

Taylor is the chip leader once again with 550,000.

Lights Out for Little; Grenon Gains

Robert Little raised to 8,000 from under the gun, leaving himself about 30,000 behind. The table folded to Pete Sawitzki who called from the cutoff, then Yves Grenon reraised from the small blind enough to put Little all in. Little called, and Sawitzki got out of the way.

Grenon showed {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs} and Little {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}. The board came {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{6-Spades}, and Little is out. Grenon now has 125,000.
