Hiding Out in the Nit Cave

Taylor hanging out in the cave
Taylor hanging out in the cave
Jared Hamby just recently lost a significant chunk of his chips, but it's not stopping him from having a little fun at the table. He happened to notice that big stack James Taylor has been slowing things down lately, not getting involved in any real confrontations.

"I know it's warm in there," said Hamby, "but don't get too comfortable in the nit cave."

After another orbit or so, he added, "Okay, you're officially in the nit cave now." We'll see if Taylor opens up his game again as we start to lose a few more players.

Lento Goes Out

Victor Lento got his short stack all into the pot before the flop holding king-queen. Joseph Cada looked him up with ace-jack, putting Lento's tournament in jeopardy.

An ace flopped, and Cada would make a club flush on the turn to eliminate Lento in 30th place.

Cada Flushes Burton

Joseph Cada raised to 25,000, then Bill Burton pushed all in for his last 83,000. Cada made the call, turning over {7-Spades}{5-Spades} to Burton's {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}.

Burton appeared to be in good shape. The flop came {10-Spades}{6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}, giving Cada an open-ended straight draw. And the {9-Spades} on the turn gave Burton's opponent a flush draw as well. Then the river came the {A-Spades}, giving Cada the flush and knocking out Burton in 32nd place.

Cada is up to 385,000 now.

Phantastic

Young Phan raised from early position, and it folded back to Mike Olsson who shoved all in from the small blind, and Phan made the call.

Olsson showed {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}, and Phan {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}. An ace flopped -- {8-Spades}{A-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}, and Olsson was suddenly way behind. The turn was the {10-Clubs} and the river the {6-Diamonds}, and Olsson is out.

Phan is now up to 300,000.

The Becquart of War

Just before the break, Julian Becquart was tangled up in a big pot with Jonas Klausen. On a flop of {8-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds}, Becquart let out with 32,000 chips. Klausen raised to 100,000, and Becquart moved all in for just a few thousand more. Klausen had no decision to make really, and he put in the call.

He tabled {K-Spades} {K-Clubs} for the overpair, but he was drawing nearly dead versus the {A-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} flopped flush of Becquart. The turn {A-Hearts} locked it up, with the {4-Clubs} completing the board. With that exchange, Becquart has doubled up over the 200,000-chip mark, knocking Klausen down to 260,000.

Break it Down

The clock has been paused, and the players are taking a 20-minute break. During that time, the rest of the purple/gray/periwinkle T500 chips will be raced off and colored up.
