100 Players Remain

As has been the case with most of the Day Twos during this summer's WSOP, the plan tonight will be to play until 3 a.m. or until nine players remain, whichever comes first. Seems a safe bet to say we won't be reaching the final nine tonight.

Bauman Out; Mirabal over 100K

On a flop of {5-Spades} {8-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds}, David Bauman led out with a bet of 5,000 from the small blind. In the big, Nelson Mirabal made a minimum raise to 10,000, and Bauman called.

Fourth street brought the {K-Spades}. Bauman checked, then called all in when Mirabal made another bet of 10,000. Mirabal tabled {5-Hearts} {6-Hearts}, and Bauman's {J-Hearts} {4-Clubs} was in trouble. Needing to hit his gutterball straight, the river brought no help with the {K-Hearts}, and Bauman has been shown the door.

Vacuuming Up Chips

After one player opened the pot to 7,700, Bertrand Grospellier reraised to about 23,000, and his opponent moved all in for ~140,000 total. ElkY instantly called, turning over one black ace and one red ace. His opponent could only show {Q-Clubs} {Q-Hearts}, and he needed to improve to stay alive.

The board came {J-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds}. Neither player held a diamond, and ElkY has claimed yet another victim. Just as the dinner break hits, Grospellier takes the chip lead with a very impressive stack of around 470,000.

More for Sweet Baby James

James Taylor
James Taylor
A player in early position raised to 6,500, and it folded back around to James Taylor (the poker player, not the singer) who raised to 17,200 total from the small blind. The big blind folded, and Taylor's opponent called.

The flop came {K-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{2-Spades}, and Taylor fired out a bet of 18,000. After some thought, his opponent folded, tapping the table to acknowledge Taylor's play.

Taylor came into the day as our chip leader, and has continued to build his stack during the first four levels of play today. He has about 250,000.

Dropping Like Flies

The line at the payout desk is beginning to thin out a bit, but players are still falling fast.

Among the most recent casualties of Day 2 were Devin Porter, Roberto Romanello, Justin Pechie, Pat Poels, and Kevin Sherrill.

Phil Felted (Finally)

Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth
The big blind finally crept back around to Phil Hellmuth's seat, and he was all in. A player in middle position raised to 5,000. "Not him!" said Hellmuth. The rest folded, and his opponent turned over {A-Spades}{5-Clubs}.

To increase the drama, Hellmuth turned over his cards one at a time. First, the {4-Hearts}. "At least it's a four," said Hellmuth, noting the live card. Then, the {7-Spades}. "Yes! The four-seven!" The table laughed.

The board came {3-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{10-Spades}{A-Diamonds}, and Hellmuth is out in 113th place, for which he earns $3,231.

That'll cover that $2,000 the Poker Brat now owes Roland de Wolfe (for losing their last-longer bet).
