Tracey Nguyen-er

"Winner on...!" is a typical call from dealers here at the World Series when a player busts out of a tournament in the money. Tracey Nguyen just heard that call at her table.

On one of the first hands after coming back from the break, Nguyen raised all in for 48,700 after an open-raise from a middle-position player. That player called with {A-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} and Nguyen showed {K-Diamonds} {k-Clubs} which never improved on a queen-high board.

Ding!

We've reached the end of level 14, and the players are on their 63-minute dinner break. We'll be back at 7:30pm for more poker.

Recent Eliminations

Jeff Williams is out. He ran {A-Hearts} {j-Spades} into an opponent's {A-Spades} {k-Clubs} and never improved.

Michael Carroll is also out. On a flop of {5-Spades} {6-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} He opened in front of Mary Jones, who reraised all in. Carroll tanked for a while before calling all in for 50,000 total. Jones showed {K-Clubs} {k-Diamonds} while Carroll tabled {A-Clubs} {k-Hearts}. The turn and river {8-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} ended Carroll's day.

Iversen vs. Svendsen

We join the action heads up in what would become another big pot. The flop showed up {K-Spades} {J-Spades} {9-Clubs}, and Katja Svendsen led out with a bet of 10,000. Albert Iversen was her opponent, and he made a raise to 26,500. Svendsen re-popped it, putting 60,000 of her 65,000-chip stack into the pot. Iversen made her commit the rest, and she called all in.

Showdown
Svendsen: {A-Spades} {4-Spades}
Iversen: {J-Clubs} {J-Diamonds}

Iversen was ahead with middle set, and Svendsen was looking for a spade to stay alive. The turn and river were both red though ({8-Diamonds} and {8-Hearts}), and Iversen snagged the pot with his jacks full of eights. He's sent Katja Svendsen to the payout desk, vaulting all the way up to 230,000.

A New Chip Leader!

Wow, talk about a great two hands for Shawn "sprstoner" Glines. First he went runner-runner into a straight to climb to 216,000 (we were watching Nam Le tank on a different table and didn't see the action).

The next hand, Glines called a raise to 7,000 from a middle-position player. The small blind also called for a three-way flop of {4-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} {2-Clubs}. Action checked to Glines, who led out for 10,000. Only the small blind called.

The turn was the {Q-Spades}. The small blind checked again, then jammed for more than 70,000 chips after Glines bet 20,000. Glines double-fist-pump-snap-called with {4-Clubs} {4-Diamonds}. His opponent was drawing mighty thin with {10-Spades} {10-Hearts}. No ten on the river; ship the chips to Glines.

It took a while for Glines to stack all the chips, but when he was done his stack totaled 340,000.

You Can Double Up? Brandon Can-tu

Brandon Cantu
Brandon Cantu
After a preflop raising war, Brandon Cantu moved all in, and a big-stacked opponent called him down to put his tournament life in jeopardy.

Cantu tabled {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}, well in front of his opponent's {A-Spades} {K-Spades}. The board ran out with three deuces but no ace, making Cantu the winning deuces full. After taking down that massive pot, he's all the way up near the top once again, sitting pretty on 245,000 chips.

Fish Floundering

A player under the gun opened with a raise to 6,000. Next door, Darryll Fish reraised to 16,500 total, and the betting came back around the table. The initial raiser moved all in for a total bet of 43,200. After a quick pause for thought, Fish made the call with the bigger stack.

Showdown
Fish: {A-Hearts} {K-Clubs}
Opponent: {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}

The board ran {9-Spades} {7-Clubs} {6-Spades} {Q-Spades} {Q-Clubs}. Failing to improve, Fish sends a good chunk of his chips to his next-door neighbor. He's slipped back to 68,000, about half of his former self now.

Up in Smoke

CardRunners has lost one of its premier players from this tournament. Zachery King just stood up from his table and gathered his things. He has been eliminated, vanishing like a puff of smoke in the wind.
