Break it Down

We've played two levels today, and it's time for a 20-minute break. The line at the cardboard pizza/stale coffee stand has now replaced the line at the payout desk as the most popular place in the room.

Charania Chugging Along

Mohsin Charania
Mohsin Charania
Mohsin Charania may have been edged out for the chip lead over the last hour or so, but he's not in reverse by any means. With Charania in the big blind, a player in the hijack seat opened with a raise to ~5,000. When it came to Charania, he moved all in, and his opponent called off his remaining 15,000, tabling {J-Clubs} {J-Hearts}. Charania turned over {A-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts}, and the race was on.

The big stack pulled away right out of the gate as the flop came down {10-Hearts} {A-Clubs} {8-Spades}. The {Q-Spades} and {2-Diamonds} filled out the board, providing no salvation for the at-risk player. Charania claims another victim, and he's still hovering right near the top with 190,000.

Rapid Fire Eliminations

The short stacks are still getting their chips in a middle like the room is on fire. We just witnessed a four-way all-in confrontation, all pre-flop. One player had pocket tens, another had pocket nines, a third had pocket jacks, and the fourth had {A-Hearts} {10-Spades}. A flop of {6-Spades} {6-Clubs} {j-Diamonds} pretty much decided things in favor of the player with pocket jacks.

Not So Sweet for Sugar Bear

Al Barbieri
Al Barbieri
In a heads-up pot between Al "Sugar Bear" Barbieri and Jan von Halle, the two men watched a flop come down {10-Diamonds} {9-Spades} {2-Spades}. Barbieri came out with a bet of 12,000 and Von Halle put in the call.

Fourth street came the {6-Diamonds}. Barbieri bet again, 31,000 this time. Von Halle looked like he wanted to do something drastic, but he elected to simply make the call to see the last card.

The river was the {Q-Clubs}, and Barbieri moved all in. Von Halle instantly called, tabling {K-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} for the straight. His flush draw never materialized, but he filled in his gutshot on the river for the stone cold nuts. Barbieri showed his {2-Clubs} {2-Diamonds}, and he would pace behind the table for a few minutes before making his way to the payout desk, looking rather peeved.

Fish Fries Opponent

Darryl Fish has avoided the lure of the payout table so far. On a flop of {9-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {10-Spades}, two opponents checked to Fish, who bet 8,500. One of those two opponents then check-raised all in for about 22,500. Fish was the only caller, tabling a monster top-pair-and-flush-draw combination, {J-Clubs} {10-Clubs}, against unimproved {A-Hearts} {Q-Clubs}. The board rolled out running nines to send Fish's opponent to the rail.

Fish is up to about 85,000.

Bonomo Caught in the Flood

Justin Bonomo - eliminated
Justin Bonomo - eliminated
It's a bit crazy on the floor right now as all of the short stacks finally start shoving. A line has formed at the payout table -- the elimianted players can't be processed fast enough. One player we spotted in line is Justin Bonomo. Bonomo was leading this tournament at one point yesterday, but now he's out.

Let the Parade of Bust-Outs Begin

While we were observing play during hand-for-hand action, we noticed lots of stacks out there that were under 16,000 chips (ten big blinds). Expect a deluge of eliminations now that the bubble has burst.

First up: Yueqi Zhu, who lost a flip with pocket deuces to Denny Robinson's ace-king.

Pop!

The money bubble has burst. On the last hand, we lost two different players.

On one table, Dennis Sargent moved all in from the button for his last 100 chips. Jeff Williams was in the small blind and raised to 5,000. Tristan Wade called from the big blind. Both players checked the action all the way down on a board of {A-Diamonds} {A-Clubs} {10-Spades} {J-Clubs} {2-Spades}. Sargent made a pair of deuces, but Wade made a pair of jacks to eliminate Sargent.

On Table 179, Tom West moved all in preflop with {A-Clubs} {K-Clubs} and was called by a player with {J-Hearts} {10-Hearts}. The board ran out {9-Clubs} {4-Diamonds} {10-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} to bust West.
