A Cacophonous Chorus

Sitting in the press box all we can hear is calls ringing out, one after another, "All in and call on ____!" Now that many of the short stacks can say they made it to Day 2, they're not showing much hesitation about getting their stacks in the middle.

Meanwhile, tables are being broken out of the back of the Orange section so that tables can be moved into the Amazon Room from the Brasilia Room (logistically, it's difficult to break tables across rooms). Isaac Baron's table was broken and he was sent to a table in Red. Yet a few minutes later he was back in Orange.

"You lose something?" Baron was asked.

"Yeah, I lost a 5k chip," Baron replied. He re-traced his steps and eventually found the wayward chip.

Black Shoots Down an Opponent with Aces

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
An unfortunate opponent holding {J-?} {10-?} shoved from the cutoff, only to run into Andy Black's {A-Hearts} {A-Spades} in the small blind. No miracles on the board, as it ran out {10-Spades} {Q-Clubs} {5-Spades} {Q-Spades} {6-Spades} and Black took it down, knocking out his opponent and increasing his stack to 87,500.

DeMichele Gets His Hall Pass Removed

On the turn, the board read {J-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {Q-Hearts} and Walter Hall tank-bet 5,000 into Michael DeMichele. DeMichele tanked and then made the call.

The river brought the {4-Clubs} and Hall bet 9,000. DeMichele raised all in for a little more than 30,000 and Hall called for less. DeMichele tabled {J-?} {J-?} for a set of jacks, but was no good to Hall's {A-Spades} {3-Clubs} for a rivered wheel.

DeMichele is down to 15,000 chips.

Riesenberg Turns Rags to Riches

In late position, Jason Riesenberg came in raising to 1,050. He found action from the big blind, heads up to the flop. The dealer spread {10-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} {3-Hearts}, and the big blind led out with a bet of 2,600. Riesenberg made the call, and the turn card brought the {3-Clubs}. The big blind led out again, this time pushing 3,500 chips into the middle. Riesenberg raised to 15,000, and his opponent called.

The last card off the deck was the {6-Spades}. Not stopping now, the big blind fired another bet, 25,000 to go. Riesenberg moved all in for just 225 on top, showing down {4-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds}. His opponent sent his cards go back into the muck, unable to beat Riesenberg's full house. With that double up, he's sitting on 92,000 chips.

That's How We Do It On the Internet

I always look like this when I three-bet
I always look like this when I three-bet
Vitaly Lunkin opened for 1,100 from the cutoff, Gary Ellis flat-called from the button, and Shaun Deeb put the squeeze on from the big blind, three-betting to 3,250. Lunkin got out of the way and Ellis called.

The flop came down {J-Spades} {7-Spades} {2-Diamonds} and both players checked. The turn was the {A-Spades} and Deeb led out for 6,075. It was enough to induce a fold from Ellis and Deeb took down the pot. He's currently on 54,100 in chips.

FBT Stands His Ground

The button, A.W. Vidmer, raised to 1,500 and then Greg "FBT" Mueller called from the small blind. The flop came down {A-Clubs} {K-Spades} {K-Diamonds} and Mueller checked. Vidmer bet 2,000 and Mueller called.

The turn was the {8-Hearts} and both players checked. The river was the {7-Diamonds} and Mueller checked again. Vidmer fired 3,000 and Mueller called.

"Good call." announced Vidmer. Mueller tabled {A-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} and Vidmer mucked. Mueller is now up to 49,000.

Caught Bluffing?

We caught this hand on the river as a player bet 2,500 bet 2,500 on a board of {Q-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}.

Jon "PearlJammed" Turner raised to 5,500 from the button and his opponent immediately called, prompting Turner to toss his hand in the muck. Turner's opponent showed {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for a full house.

One, Two, Three, Four for Scott

Kara Scott, from Day 1 action
Kara Scott, from Day 1 action
Kara Scott opened from under the gun for 1,200. She was called by the button player. Both of them checked the {7-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {K-Spades} flop. Scott fired out 1,600 on the {2-Spades} turn. The button called.

The river feel {7-Spades}. Scott made the price of a showdown 3,000 chips. Her opponent called and found that he couldn't beat the stone cold nuts held by Scott: {7-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} for quad sevens. Scott's hand drew several appreciative whistles and comments from other players at the table.

Scott is up to 36,500.

Deviating from the Mean

We've seen lots of statistical anomalies during this Main Event. With so many tables in action dealing so many hands, it's really not that unusual. So we weren't all that surprised to see {A-?} {A-?}, {K-?} {K-?} and {Q-?} {Q-?} all dealt on the same table in the same hand here in the Orange section. James Navolanic was the lucky player with aces, and his preflop betting action induced a fold out of the player with queens. That left Navolanic heads-up against pocket kings. His aces held to knock the player with kings out of the tournament.

Navolanic is up to 150,000.

Lester Doubles Up

The player on the button opened the pot with a raise, and Jason Lester moved all in for a total of 10,600. The big blind then shoved all in himself, drawing a fold from the button and making it heads up for Lester's tournament life.

He turned over {A-Hearts} {Q-Clubs}, and he was in trouble versus the big blind who showed {K-Hearts} {K-Clubs}. Lester wouldn't pair up on the flop, but the {8-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {3-Hearts} did give him some additional outs to the heart flush. The {10-Hearts} on the river was just what the doctor ordered, giving him the unbeatable flush. He's not
