Jean-Robert at It Again

After a flop of {J-Hearts} {8-Clubs} {5-Hearts}, Jean-Robert Bellande bet 6,500 and his opponent min-raised to 13,000. Bellande grabed a big stack as if he was going to raise, then he smooth called instead.

The turn was the {4-Clubs} and Bellande led out small for 8,000. His opponent called.

The river brought the {3-Clubs} and Bellande fired out 35,000. After Bellande under-bet the turn and then made a healthy bet on the river, his opponent tanked for about two minutes before making the call.

Bellande showed {8-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} for a set of eights and took down the pot. After getting down to 37,000, Bellande has built back up to 160,000.

Hammer Pounds an Opponent

John Hammer
John Hammer
With 40,000 already in the pot before a flop of {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{5-Clubs}, action checked to a player in late position who bet 13,000. John Hammer was on the button and next to act, which he did, raising to 33,000. The small blind folded as did Phil Hellmuth who was in early position, and we went heads up to the turn, which brought the {J-Spades}.

Action checked to Hammer who bet 35,000 and his opponent made the call. The {5-Diamonds} on the river brought another check-call, this time for 40,000, and Hammer tabled the {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} for a full house. When his opponent mucked, Hammer had increased his stack to 600,000.

Bill Edler Eliminated

Bill Edler - eliminated
Bill Edler - eliminated
Bill Edler is the latest player to hit the rail in a rapidly shrinking Brasilia Room. Preflop he called a raise to 4,400 with position on the raiser. Jamie Brown also called from the big blind.

All three players checked the {7-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {10-Spades} flop. The turn came {3-Clubs}. Brown had first action and opened for 11,800. That bet folded the preflop raiser before Edler raised to 29,800. Brown moved all in, having Edler's 90,000 well-covered. Edler called with {3-Spades} {3-Hearts}, having turned a set of threes. Brown showed {10-Diamonds} {10-Hearts}, a flopped set of tens. There was no miracle for Edler on the {5-Spades} river.

After the hand, Edler stood up, shook hands with everyone at the table (particularly giving Brown a firm shake and a "Well played") and then departed the Brasilia Room.

Calo's Cowboys Crushed

We just had a three-way all in over on Table 43. Chris Bjorin was in for 108,300, Frank Calo had 188,000, and Alex Kostritsyn was in there too, having both opponents covered. With all of those chips piled in the middle of the table, the cards were turned up:

Showdown
Bjorin: {A-Hearts} {A-Diamonds}
Calo: {K-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}
Kostritsyn: {A-Clubs} {A-Spades}

The board ran out dry, coming {7-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {9-Clubs} {4-Diamonds}. Calo is the odd man out with his kings betraying him. He's outta here, and Kostritsyn and Bjorin split up his money, picking up nearly 100,000 each on that exchange.

Schulman Survives

Nick Schulman just now had almost all of his stack in the middle with {K-Hearts}{K-Spades} and was in the exceedingly uncomfortable position of being up against an opponent with {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}.

The flop made things somewhat more tolerable, though, for Schulman -- {K-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{Q-Spades}. Now he just had to dodge a ten as well as an ace. The turn was the {J-Clubs}, giving Schulman a full house. Just the two remaining aces to sweat with one card to come.

The river was the {2-Hearts}, and Shulman now has a stack just under 200,000.

Bellande Bounces Back

Jean-Robert Bellande toughing it out
Jean-Robert Bellande toughing it out
With a cutoff raise to 4,500 before him, Jean-Robert Bellande pushed his last 35,400 into the middle out of the small blind and the original raiser made the call.

Bellande: {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Opponent: {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}

"One time for the kid . . . it can happen," stated Bellande as the camera crew occupied the surround space.

"One time for the kid please!" screamed Bellande when the {5-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} dropped.

The turn changed little when it dropped the {9-Hearts}, but when the river fell the {3-Diamonds} Bellande found his double to over 70,000 with a diamond-flush.

"Did this really happen to me?"

"I'm Jean-Robert . . . you didn't get the memo, dealer?"

"So this is what it's like . . . you know what . . . sucking out is a good thing . . . you just get it in with the worse and suck out."

As Bellande continued to rave on while the camera rolled, he finished with one last statement, "That might be all I needed!"

Baron Eliminates a Player

Isaac Baron moved his short stack in preflop and got one caller.

Baron: {K-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Opponent: {Q-Spades}{8-Clubs}

Baron paired on the flop, which fell {A-Spades}{10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} and then faded his opponent's outs with the {9-Spades} and {7-Spades}. The hand added valuable chips to Baron's stack, taking him to 78,000.

Bjorin Squeezes

Alexander Kostritsyn raised to 4,000 and Josh Arieh called next to act. Two more players called behind Arieh and then the small blind called as well. Chris Bjorin was in the big blind. His eyes panned around the table and then he moved all in for 87,700 total. One by one, each player folded and Bjorin was able to add a nice pile of chips to his stack. He now has 110,000.
