Nguyen Can't Beat Third Pair

We think action was checked in a three-way pot to the turn, {A-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} {J-Spades} {9-Diamonds}. We say that because there were three players in the hand and 6,500 chips in the pot. Two players checked to Van Nguyen on the button. She bet 7,000, folding one player. The other player check-raised to 17,000. Nguyen called.

The river was a third diamond, the {2-Diamonds}. That slowed down the action, with both players checking.

"Ace is good," Nguyen's opponent said. "You have an ace?" Neither player tabled their cards, prompting the dealer to instruct Nguyen's opponent to open his hand. He showed {K-Clubs} {J-Clubs} for a pair of jacks, then clapped his hands when Nguyen mucked.
