Ellis Gives Cernuto a Good Caning

Miami John Cernuto completed with the {9-Clubs}, and Freddie Ellis stayed in with the {2-Diamonds} up. On fourth street, Cernuto picked up an open pair with the {9-Spades}, and he double bet it. Ellis' {J-Hearts} was worth a call. On fifth and sixth streets, Ellis called single bets from Cernuto.

Cernuto: (X-X) / {9-Clubs} {9-Spades} {8-Clubs} {10-Hearts} / (X)
Ellis: (X-X) / {2-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {5-Spades} {6-Diamonds} / (X)

On seventh street, Cernuto slowed down, tapping the table. Ellis took the opportunity to bet, and Cernuto called him down. Ellis opened up {Q-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds}, which was more than Cernuto could beat. Ellis' queen-high flush was plenty good enough to chip him up to 265,000, leaving Miami John with less than 50,000.

...And He's Out

Miami John's massage is over
Miami John's massage is over
Fresh off that big chip drop versus Freddie Ellis, Miami John Cernuto was splashing around in one of the next pots. He ended up all in on fourth street against Greg "FBT" Mueller. On sixth street, Mueller snagged a full house, eights full of sixes, and Miami John will head out of here a few spots short of the money.

Negreanu and Lisanrdo Gang Up on Wilson

Another player is out. Karle Wilson called all in on fourth street after completing a {6-Hearts} and then calling a raise by Daniel Negreanu's {K-Diamonds}. The bring-in, Jeff Lisandro, also called as well with the {2-Clubs}.

With Wilson all in, Negreanu bet every street to the river and Lisandro called every time. Down the river, Negreanu checked (X-X) / {K-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {8-Spades} {6-Spades} / (X) to Lisandro's (X-X) / {2-Clubs}{5-Clubs} {J-Clubs} {6-Spades} / (X). Lisandro obliged with a bet that Negreanu called. It was five clubs for Lisandro, as he produced {K-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {7-Hearts} in the hole for a king-high club flush. That was enough to win the side pot from Negreanu and the main pot from Wilson.

Lisandro is up to 205,000; Negreanu is down to 295,000; and Wilson is out.

Going, Going, Goddard

Brian Goddard was in decent shape with 130,000 chips about ten minutes ago, but he's now on the outside looking in. We just picked up the tail end of the hand, seeing that Goddard had played his trip kings strong. Unfortunately for him, a full house beats trips, and Freddie Ellis just happened to have aces full, sending Goddard out the door.

Judah Pinned to the Wahlbeck

Ville Wahlbeck had the automatic bring-in with the {2-Clubs}. Daniel Negreanu completed with the {A-Clubs}, and Mel Judah's {6-Spades} was worth a call. When it came back to Wahlbeck though, he raised it up. Negreanu folded, while Judah decided to keep going.

Wahlbeck: (X-X) / {2-Clubs} {5-Spades} {6-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} / (X)
Judah: (X-X) / {6-Spades} {5-Clubs} {6-Clubs} {10-Hearts} / (X)

Judah check-called on fourth street, and both men checked fifth. On sixth street, Judah fired a bet, and Wahlbeck called. Seventh street saw Judah just check-call once more. Wahlbeck tabled {Q-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds}, giving him queens up. It was good; Judah gathered his cards and slid them into the muck.

Wahlbeck - 390,000
Judah - 165,000

Go, Go, Freddie Ellis!

Freddie Ellis
Freddie Ellis
As mentioned earlier in the day, Freddie Ellis -- with his gentle, jovial demeanor -- has become the darling of media row. We were therefore pleased to see him drag a monster pot from Ray "Copy-and-Paste" Dehkharghani.

Dehkharghani started the action by completing the {A-Diamonds}. He was raised by Brett Richey's {10-Hearts}. Ellis shoed {8-Clubs} and made a curious cold call of two bets. Dehkharghani then 3-bet, earning calls from both Richey and Dehkharghani.

Dehkharghani bet again on fourth after drawing the {7-Clubs} and was called only by Ellis with the {K-Clubs}. Both players caught seeming bricks on fifth. Action the action was bet, call.

On sixth street, Dehkharghani bet (X-X) / {A-Diamonds} {7-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} and was raised by Ellis' (X-X) / {8-Clubs} {K-Clubs} {2-Spades} {Q-Diamonds}. Dehkharghani called to the river, where he checked to Ellis. Ellis bet, was check-raised by Dehkharghani and then put in the third bet. Dehkharghani had to make a crying call at that point; Ellis showed down {Q-Spades} {Q-Clubs} {2-Hearts} for a full house, queens full of deuces.

Ellis is up to 380,000, near the top of the pack now. Dehkharghani is down to 220,000; and Richey was eliminated a few hands later.

Hand-For-Hand

With seventeen players left, we've been hand-for-hand now for about ten minutes. As a result, not much is happening.

One little snafu -- a brand new dealer pushed into the tournament and did not realize that play was hand-for-hand. As a result her table (Hasan Habib's table) got one hand ahead before the error was realized. The other tables are now playing a "catch-up" hand to get everyone back on the same pace.

Magnus Persson Eliminated on the Bubble

There are sixteen happy players in tonight's Seven-Card Stud World Championship and one dejected "so close!" player. Magnus Persson was anted down relentlessly until he had no choice but to move with split sixes. Hasan Habib was the challenger with three spades, {A-Spades} {10-Spades} {3-Spades}. Persson's split sixes never improved, but Habib caught a fourth spade on fifth street and the caller fifth spade on the river.

Magnus Persson is the bubble boy; the rest of the tournament is on a twenty-minute break.
