Baker's Ten-Eight Good Enough

David Baker was under the gun and raised to 500. Brett Richey was in the big blind and reraised to 2,000. Baker made the call. On the draw, Baker stood pat after Richey drew one. Both players then checked.

Baker spread a ten-eight and Richey couldn't beat it. He lost a third of his starting stack while Baker chipped up to about 9,700.

Late Arrivals

Sometimes the best things are saved for last. In this tournament some of the best players in the world arrived late, saving themselves to the last moment to enter. Three new tables have been added to the field and they include Howard Lederer, Steve Zolotow, Andy Bloch, Brett Richey, David Baker, Chris Ferguson, Johnny Chan, Jason Mercier, Eli Elezra, Marco Johnson, Daniel Negreanu, Dan Heimiller, Greg Mueller and Freddy Deeb. Quite the list of names for a bunch of late arrivals.

Break Time

We've reached the first break of the evening. Two more one-hour levels and the add-on period will be over. The plan is to play eight one-hour levels altogether today.

Sizing Up the Field

About five minutes to go in Level 2 and the end of which registration will be closed. The total number of entrants has just moved past the 90-player mark. We'll see if they crack 100 in just a few.

Schmelev Starts Strong

Post draw, Jon Turner checked and then Tom Dwan checked as well. Vladimir Schmelev bet 1,800 and then Turner raised all in for 7,050. Dwan folded and Schmelev made the call. He held number one, {7-}{5-}{4-}{3-}{2-}, and Turner held the {8-}{6-}{4-}{3-}{2-}. Turner was left tossing in one of his add-on chips to rebuy for 7,500 while Schmelev moved to 17,000. He also has all three add-on chips left.
