Tom Shows Strength, Then a Trey

Tom "durrrr" Dwan raised to 4,100 from UTG. Then Nick Schulman -- winner of this same event in 2009 -- called from the cutoff. John Juanda next reraised to 16,500 from the button.

Dwan tanked for some time, then announced he was reraising all in, too. Both Schulman and Juanda skedaddled.

Dwan sorted through his cards for a moment, then showed the {3-Clubs}. The table erupted in laughter, perhaps expecting to see a more bluffy-looking card from durrrr.

Dwan now has 88,000. Schulman has 83,000, while Juanda has slipped to 42,000.

Alaei Out

Daniel Alaei; not a happy chappy!
Daniel Alaei; not a happy chappy!

Daniel Alaei found himself all in predraw against Daniel Negreanu.

Both players drew one with Alaei catching a {K-} to match up with his {9-}{8-}{5-}{4-}.

Negreanu found a {Q-} to go along with his {8-}{4-}{3-}{2-} to send Alaei to the rail and himself to nearly 100,000 in chips.

Yan Stays Alive

Parris Holmes opened to 3,100 only to have Yan Chen move all in from the cutoff for his last 16,600.

Todd Brunson made the call as Holmes folded.

Chen drew one with his {9-}{6-}{4-}{2-} while Brunson stood pat with his {9-}{8-}{6-}{3-}{2-}.

Chen slowly squeezed out a {5-} to take the lead and stay alive as Brunson slips to 75,000 in chips.

Here's What Not to Do

Yesterday Stephen Chidwick enjoyed the chip lead for several levels during the early evening. The story we heard was that Chidwick was fairly new to deuce-to-seven lowball, having received a quick tutelage in the game from his friend David "Bakes" Baker shortly before the start of play yesterday.

As it happens, those two drew seats beside each other today, although it appears their table is about to break. They are sitting to the left of Chris "Jesus" Ferguson, and the trio were just now laughing about a hand from yesterday in which Ferguson was dealt quad fours, made a small raise before the draw, then stood pat. (If you are curious, here's that hand.)

Chidwick continues to show he's a fast learner, sitting at present with 106,000. Meawhile Baker has 74,000 and Ferguson 28,500.

Brancato Busts

Nicholas Brancato has been felted

Peter Gould opened to 3,400 only to have Michael Mizrachi three-bet from the button to 8,500.

With the action on Nicholas Brancato in the big blind, he moved all in for his last 35,200.

Gould took his time before making the call as Mizrachi folded.

Drawing one, Brancato tabled his {7-}{6-}{4-}{2-} as Gould stood pat with his {8-}{5-}{4-}{3-}{2-}.

Needing a five or a three to stay alive, Brancato could only manage to squeeze out a {6-} as he made his way to the rail with Gould climbing to 108,000 in chips.

Diaz Dusted

Michael Binger opened to 3,000 and Nicholas Brancato made the call before George Danzer bumped it to 11,500 from the small blind.

With the action on Arturo Diaz, he moved all in for roughly 50,000 to prompt folds from Binger and Brancato before Danzer made the call.

Both players stood pat with Danzer tabling his {7-}{6-}{5-}{4-}{2-} to prompt Diaz to muck his hand while heading to the rail.

Danzer now has over 130,000 in chips.

Sitting In The Wind Tunnel

"So what is the chance of moving us over there?" asked Andy Black to the Tournament Director as he pointed to a table closer to the rail.

"It's like you've put us in a wind tunnel here" continued Black.

Black does have a point because the temperature in the Amazon Room has forced the entire PokerNews Live Reporting Team to rug up in black hoodies.

Even Mike Matusow and Mike Wattel had some hoodies brought in for them so that they could handle the coldness that is being experienced.

"So why can't we just move over there?" asked Black.

The Tournament Director just responded with a blunt negative shake of the head before saying no.

Let's Make It a Little More Interesting

Prop bet time. This one took some negotiating, but Tom "durrrr" Dwan has successfully gotten both John Juanda and Chris Ferguson to agree to an unusual "double-must-win" bet.

For Dwan to win the bet, he must win this Event No. 19, and Huck Seed (recently eliminated here) must win the tournament that begins at 5 p.m. this afternoon, Event No. 21, the $1,500 buy-in Seven-Card Stud event.

The agreed upon odds were 800-to-1. Juanda is in for $2,000, while Ferguson is for $1,000. That would be $2.4 million for Dwan, should both he and Seed win their respective events.

Dwan currently has 82,000 in this one.
