Event #22: $1,000 Ladies No-Limit Hold’em Championship

Day 2 Completed

Day 2 Concludes

Sidsel Boesen, chip leader at the end of Day 2
Sidsel Boesen, chip leader at the end of Day 2

From a starting field of 1.054 players, just 136 returned for today's Day 2. And after nine-and-a-half levels we're down to our final nine.

The nine who are returning outlasted several well known players and top pros along the way today, including Karina Jett, Michele Lewis, Maria Ho, Liv Boeree, Svetlana Gromenkova, Lacey Jones, Mimi Tran, Evelyn Ng, and the First Lady of Poker, Linda Johnson.

La Sengphet, who began the day with an enormous lead over the field, continued to enjoy the chip lead for most of Day 2. Eventually, though, others rose to Sengphet's challenge, with Kami Chisholm -- a.k.a. "Dr. Kamikaze" -- at times occupying the top spot when Sengphet was not.

By the end of play, however, it was Sidsel Boesen -- who was involved in multiple big hands with Sengphet today -- who is our overnight leader. Here are the counts at night's end:

Seat 1: Vanessa Hellebuyck - 277,000
Seat 2: Holly Hodge - 279,000
Seat 3: Allison Whalen - 344,000
Seat 4: Kami Chisholm - 529,000
Seat 5: Sidsel Boesen - 789,000
Seat 6: Bonnie Overfield - 226,000
Seat 7: Loren Watterworth - 75,000
Seat 8: Timmi Derosa - 437,000
Seat 9: La Sengphet - 206,000

Though their stacks are unequal, all nine women will be returning with the same dream tomorrow of winning a WSOP bracelet. After some discussion, it was decided they will return at 3 p.m. local time Sunday to continue their quest.

See you back here then!

Ronit Chamani Eliminated in 10th Place ($10,833)

Ronit Chamani - 10th place
Ronit Chamani - 10th place

Sidsel Boesen raised to 27,000 from under the gun, and it folded all of the way around the ten-handed table to Ronit Chamani in the big blind. Chamani didn't take any time at all to announce she was all in for her last 62,000, and Boesen called.

Chamani showed {A-Spades}{10-Spades} and Boesen {5-Spades}{4-Spades}. The flop came {6-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}, giving Chamani a pair and a seeming lock on the hand. But the turn was the {5-Clubs}, opening the door a bit for Boesen. Then came the river -- the {5-Hearts}! Trips for Boesen, and Chamani goes out just shy of the final table.

Boesen ends the night with 789,000.

Long Day's Journey Into Night

The ten remaining players are asking about the so-called "12-hour rule" that says players will be given 12 hours to rest before a tournament gets resumed. The scheduled start for tomorrow is 2:30 p.m. local time, and since we've just passed 2:30 a.m., the question is whether or not the start tomorrow will be delayed.

It sounds like they've managed to convince the Tournament Director that the start tomorrow shouldn't come until a little later than scheduled.

We'll see how things play out tonight -- there is currently 40 minutes left in this, the last level of the night. Of course, it all could end at any moment if we have another elimination first.

Traci Brown Eliminated in 11th Place ($10,833)

Traci Brown - 11th place
Traci Brown - 11th place

Traci Brown was all in with her last 40,000 for her tourney life with {4-Hearts}{4-Clubs}, and needed her hand to hold up versus Vanessa Hellebuyck's {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}.

Alas for Brown, the flop came {K-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{9-Hearts}, pairing Hellebuyck, and the turn was the {A-Hearts}, giving her a second pair. The river was the {2-Hearts}, and Brown is out in 11th. Hellebuyck now has 300,000.

They are currently redrawing for a single ten-handed table. One more elimination to the (official) final table!

Sengphet Slides

La Sengphet has lost some chips over the course of a couple of hands.

The first was a double-up for Vanessa Hellebuyck in which Hellebuyck, holding {A-Spades}{J-Diamonds}, caught an ace on the river to survive versus Sengphet's {4-Hearts}{4-Spades}. Hellebuych moved to 230,000 on that one.

In the second, Allison Whalen doubled to 112,000 with {A-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} versus Sengphet's {A-Clubs}{K-Spades} after flopping a seven and having the hand hold.

Those two hands knock Sengphet down to 150,000.

Fatima Gaonach Eliminated in 12th Place ($10,833)

Fatima Gaonach - 12th place
Fatima Gaonach - 12th place

Kami Chisholm raised to 23,000, and it folded around to Fatima Gaonach in the small blind who reraised all in for 140,000. Chisholm made the call.

Gaonach tabled {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs} and Chisholm {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}. The board ran out {5-Hearts}{5-Spades}{3-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}, giving Chisholm a boat and knocking Gaonach out in 12th.

Chisholm -- our chip leader by far at the moment -- moves up to 865,000 on that one.
