McNamara Freezes Tran

JD McNamara raised to 300,000 from the small blind, and Kiet Tran called. Get ready for a nice nap. The flop came {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{7-Spades}, and McNamara checked. Tran bet 350,000, and JD check-raised all in for an extra 1,570,000. Tran took a few minutes to think before Jeff Tebben called the clock on him. Tran let all 60 seconds tick down, and the floor declared his hand dead. It was unclear whether the folks cheering were applauding McNamara's win or simply the end of the hand.

McNamara Cautious with Top Pair

JD McNamara raised to 240,000 from the small blind, and Kiet Tran called. The both checked the {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} flop, and McNamara checked again after the {8-Diamonds} on the turn. Tran bet 225,000, and McNamara called. It was back to check-check when the river brought the {4-Diamonds}, and McNamara took it down with {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}. After the hand, Tran was one big blind ahead of McNamara with 3.35 million to 3.3 million.

Tran Back on Top

Kiet Tran raised to 230,000 from the small blind, and Jeff Tebben called in the big.

Flop: {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{2-Hearts} - Tran checked to Tebben, who bet 300,000. Then, slowly as always, Tran check-raised to 1 million. Tebben called the first check-raise at the final table.

Turn: {7-Diamonds} - Tran moved all in for 1.35 million, and somehow, as if he hadn't expected that move when he called the million, Tebben folded. He's down to 3,050,000 now while Tran retook the lead and is at 3,600,000.

Denis Murphy Eliminated in 4th Place ($162,568)

Denis Murphy - 4th Place
Denis Murphy - 4th Place

Denis Murphy raised to 190,000 under the gun, and Jeff Tebben called on the button. The flop came {k-Spades}{5-Spades}{2-Clubs}, and Murphy bet 320,000. Tebben called to see the {4-Clubs} on the turn. This time, Murphy moved all in, and Tebben snap-called. Turns out that Murphy had shoved a street too late, running straight into Tebben's {a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for a wheel. Murphy held {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs} and needed to hit a club on the river to survive. But instead, the river was the {2-Hearts}, and Murphy was forced to follow Cai out the door in fourth place. For his efforts, Murphy gets $162,568 - more than enough to cover his trip from Ireland.

David Cai - 5th Place
David Cai - 5th Place

David Cai moved all in under the gun for 890,000 (11 big blinds). JD McNamara called from the big blind, and it was time to turn 'em up. This time, they even had different hands!

Showdown
Cai: {k-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
McNamara: {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}

The board ran out {k-Spades}{7-Spades}{2-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}, changing nothing. Cai was eliminated in fifth place, picking up $119,410. That's enough to more than double his lifetime WSOP earnings.

...And Again

This time, Jeff Tebben made it 225,000 to go under the gun, and JD McNamara shipped for 1.7 million from the cutoff. Tebben called and showed {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}. And McNamara turned over {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}. The board came {k-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{4-Spades}, and the dealer got to practice his pot chopping skills again.
