2008 Champ Benyamine Eliminated

David Benyamine - eliminated
David Benyamine - eliminated

What a difference a level makes. Just a short time ago, David Benyamine was flying along and Jordan Morgan was in trouble with only 30,000 chips. Now Benyamine is out after losing a critical pot to Morgan and Morgan is above average with 183,000.

Benyamine check-called Morgan's bet on the {j-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {k-Spades} flop and check-called on the {a-Clubs} turn. He checked again when the river paired jacks, then tanked for a while after Morgan bet. Finally Benyamine tossed in calling chips, but whatever he had couldn't beat Morgan's full house, {a-Diamonds} {a-Spades} {6-Diamonds} {6-Spades}.

That hand crippled Benyamine to 20,000. He was eliminated a short time later.

Morgan Quads Up to 92K

Jordan Morgan was down to just 30,000 in chips a short time ago. Now he has 92,000 after making quads and getting paid by Michael Jarmark. Morgan got three bets in on the flop with {5-Spades} {5-Clubs} {q-Diamonds} {q-Clubs} after flopping middle set, {5-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} {3-Hearts}. By the time the river came down, he had improved to quads. Dragging that pot gave Morgan some breathing room, but with limits of 5,000 and 10,000 he's far from safe.

Setback for Guoga

Tony G
Tony G

Tony G has been doing his damndest to grind his way through this tournament, bouncing from the middle of the pack to the top of the counts and back several times. He's below par after a confrontation with fellow Aussie Jeffrey Lisandro. Tony G bet the flop and the turn, with Lisandro calling both times. On the river, with the board showing {7-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} {q-Diamonds}, the G decided to check. Lisandro took the opportunity to bet, then turned over a nut flush small flush, {2-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} {4-Spades}, to claim the pot.

Lisandro now has about 200,000 chips.

Seven Ways to the Flop

Seven (yes, seven) players saw the flop of {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} in an unraised pot and the flop came down {A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}. First up was Jen Harman and she checked. Next was Yuval Bronshtein and he bet. Sammy Farha folded, looked at our reporting and said, "Write this down. I won every pot over there (pointing) and no pots over here!" Martin Davis folded net and then Pat Pezzin raised. Chino Rheem folded and then Jose De Paz reraised. Harman folded, Bronshtein called and Pezzin called.

The turn card brought the {9-Spades} and the three remaining players checked before the {3-Hearts} fell on the turn. Bronshtein checked and Pezzin bet out. Paz called and Bronshtein folded, leaving a heads-up showdown.

Pezzin tabled the {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{4-Spades} and Paz tabled the {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}. Both players had aces and tens to chop up the pot.

Interesting Table Draws

Phil Hellmuth was recently broken off of the feature table and took a seat at Scotty Nguyen's table. The discussion between the two pros quickly turned to the 2001 WSOP, when Nguyen and Hellmuth played heads-up for a bracelet in the $5,000 Omaha Hi/Lo event. Nguyen got the best of Hellmuth that day.

Michael Chow and Dan Heimiller are also seated at the same table. They don't need nearly as long memories to remember the last time they were heads-up for a bracelet in an Omaha Hi/Lo event. It happened less than two weeks ago, in Event #4, $1,500 Omaha Hi/Lo.

Flush for Flushy Knocks Out Two

James "Flushy" Dempsey is up to 330,000 afte ra double elimination on Red 369. Kiril Gerasimov and Matt Glantz were both all in on a flop of {9-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} {q-Spades}, with Dempsey making the call. His {a-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} {10-Hearts} wound up making the nuts when the board ran out {k-Hearts} and {10-Diamonds} to give Dempsey an ace-high flush. Gerasimov and Glantz both quickly mucked their hands and left the Amazon Room.

Morgan Staves Elimination Again

David Benyamine raised from the hijack seat and then Jordan Morgan reraised from the cutoff seat. James Dempsey called from the big blind and then Benyamine tossed in the extra bet to make the call.

The flop came down {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} and Dempsey checked. Benyamine also checked and then Morgan bet. Dempsey called and Benyamine folded.

The turn card was the {7-Diamonds} and Dempsey bet out. Morgan raised and it committed all of his chips to the hand. Dempsey called. Dempsey held the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} and Morgan held the {A-Spades}{8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{4-Spades}. The river completed the board with the {5-Spades} and the two players chopped up the pot, keeping Morgan alive.
