Chop It Up

J P Kelly
J P Kelly

Team PokerStars pro JP Kelly has decided to give this event a stab in a bid to add to the pot-limit hold'em bracelet he won last year. At the moment, he has 4,100 after chopping up at a pot.

Kelly: {4-Spades}{4-Clubs}{5-Hearts}/{4-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{2-Spades}
Opponent: {A-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{5-Clubs}/{3-Spades}{2-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}

JP was initially the aggressor on third street, but ended up calling bets up until the final down card where he snapped up the high with fours full of decues. His opponent took the other half with a low to the eight.

The A-List Has Arrived

As predicted, the big names all arrived late - and indeed there were so many of them that they had to open a new section of the Amazon Room to accommodate them all.

So we now have one table over there that features Men Nguyen, Jimmy Fricke and David Steicke. Elsewhere we have Darus Suharto, Joe Hachem, recent stud bracelet winner Richard Ashby, Phil Ivey, John Juanda and Alex Kravchenko.

Perhaps the most interesting table - or at least the loudest - right now features Daniel Negreanu, Mike Matusow, David Williams and Howard Lederer. Three of those four were, at the time of us lurking around the table, involved in prop bet discussions with Tom Dwan at the next table. We can't be sure of any details - the discussion was cut short when Dwan's table was broken and he was moved across the room. Although probably he can still hear Matusow from his new table.

Norman Chad Has Some Competition

Norman Chad is not the only ESPN commentator in the field today. Mike Patrick is giving it a go in this $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Low affair. Patrick was the play-by-play voice for NFL Sunday Night Football from 1987-2005 and currently is the play-by-play announcer for ESPN College Football Primetime.

At the 2009 World Series of Poker, he played in the $10,000 Omaha Hi-Low World Championship, as well as the $3,000 HORSE tournament. He did not make the money in either, but he hopes for that to change this year.

He currently has a stack of about 5,500.

Minor Setback for Jones

Lacey Jones
Lacey Jones

Lacey Jones has enjoyed a lucrative start with 5,750, but suffered a minor setback just moments ago.

Jones: {X}{X}{X}/{Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}
Opponent: {A-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}/{A-Spades}{8-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts}

I joined the party on fourth street, Lacey Jones calling single bets all the way down to seventh street before being scooped by A-A for the high and A-2-3-5-6 for the low.
