I Would Have Lost, Won, Tied...

Eli Elezra
Eli Elezra

No-Limit

Eli Elezra raised from middle position, an opponent reraised all in for 6,625 from the cutoff, and a third player reshoved over the top for approximately 23,000. Elezra tanked for a minute or so, grumbling.

"I have a middle pair and I know you both have ace-king and ace-queen," he said. Then with a big grin folded his "middle" pair face up -- {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}.

One opponent did have {A-Hearts}{8-Hearts}, but the other showed {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades}. "Good fold," Elezra said to himself. The flop came {4-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{5-Clubs}. Then the turn brought the {3-Clubs} and an R-rated moan from Elezra. The river was the {8-Clubs}, though, meaning the two players involved ended up chopping the pot -- and Elezra was happy again. Sort of.

Elezra is sitting with about 65,000 at present, one of the bigger stacks in our rapidly shrinking field.

Weisner No More

No-Limit

Melanie Weisner was all in for 1,775 in early position, and the small blind made an isolating reraise to get her heads up and at risk.

Showdown
Weisner: {K-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds}
Big blind: {A-Hearts} {J-Spades}

The flop was a tease as it came {2-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} {4-Spades} to give Weisner the flush draw. But that flush never materialized on the {4-Clubs} or {A-Spades} river, and that's going to end her night early.

A Few Moore

No-Limit

Chris Moore moved all in for about 5,000 following a late-position raise, and he was in front with {A-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} to his opponent's {7-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {K-Spades} {9-Spades} {9-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} {4-Hearts}. That's safe for Moore, and he's hanging around with about 12,000.

Potter Shaping His Stack

Limit

Jason Potter raised in early position and the big blind, an unknown and mustachioed man called. The flop came {9-Diamonds} {K-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} and the big blind check-called a bet from Potter. Potter bet again on the {Q-Hearts} turn, and he called the extra bet when the big blind check-raised. On the {2-Hearts} river, it was Potter raising to two bets and the big blind bet-calling.

The big blind tabled {10-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} for the straight, but Potter's {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} was good for the full house and the pot. That moves him up to 23,000.

Liv to the Limit

Liv Boeree
Liv Boeree

Limit

A player UTG raised, Liv Boeree called, and the big blind called as well. The flop came {4-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}. The BB checked, the original raiser bet, and both Boeree and the BB called.

The turn was the {J-Hearts}. This time it checked to Boeree who bet, and only the big blind called. The river was the {3-Hearts}, and both players checked.

Boeree showed {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts}, and her opponent {A-Spades}{5-Diamonds}. Boeree's kicker was best, and she took the pot. She now has 34,000.

Tran Running Short

Theo Tran
Theo Tran

Limit

Theo Tran raised from late position, and the big blind came along with him to the flop.

It rolled out {2-Clubs} {A-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} and Tran's continuation bet saw the big blind check-raise to two bets. Tran raised it right back, and they each put three bets in to see the {K-Spades} turn. The big blind checked, and Tran took the free {10-Clubs} river. The big blind bet, and Tran made a frowning call.

The big blind showed {A-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds}, and Tran just double-checked his cards to make sure they hadn't changed before tossing them muckward. He only has 7,400 left now.

Kelly Killin' It (Again)

Steven Kelly at his bracelet ceremony earlier today
Steven Kelly at his bracelet ceremony earlier today

No-Limit

Steven Kelly was on the stage earlier this afternoon to receive his bracelet for winning Event #39, the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout late last night. Just before the ceremony, Kelly stopped by our desk to ask about whether or not the presentation would last beyond the first break. He was concerned, see, because he had business to attend to here in Event #44.

We assured him that the tourney wouldn't restart until the ceremony ended, and he thus was able to enjoy the presentation and playing of the U.S. national anthem without fretting over getting back to his stack.

Since then, Kelly gradually added to that stack all afternoon and early evening. Just now he was involved in a hand versus Tim Vansant in which he opened for 900 from middle position and Vansant called from the big blind. The pair checked down the {5-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{8-Spades}{J-Spades}{6-Clubs} board, Kelly showed {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} which was good, and he dragged the small pot.

He's now our new chip leader with 71,000, working on bracelet number two.

A Staredown, but No Showdown for Santoro

No-Limit

Mike Santoro raised from late position, and Eli Elezra called to see a flop of {5-Spades} {10-Clubs} {3-Hearts}. Santoro continued out with a bet of 1,700 and Elezra promptly raised to 4,000. Santoro took his pause and raised it back to 7,700 straight. That left about 22,000 in front of him, and he would have to deal with a long, pointed gaze from Elezra.

Eli leaned forward over the table, and really glared at Santoro, while the latter sat still as a statue with his elbows on the rail and his hands tucked under his chin. Elezra cut out a stack of 20,000. Then he added another three or four yellows on top of the stack and shuffled the top half slowly. It was about three solid minutes of staring before Elezra broke his gaze, leaned back in his chair, and flicked his cards into the muck.

Elezra - 63,000
Santoro - 30,000
