What's in a Minute Anyways?

We're all certain that there are 60 seconds in a minute, but exactly how long that takes to pass was up for debate on the floor a few moments ago.

After Jesse Martin checked a board of {5-Spades}{j-Hearts}{2-Spades}{5-Clubs}{6-Spades}, his opponent went all in, sending Martin deep, deep into the tank. After what seemed like eternity, someone called clock and Martin expressed that he planned on using every second of it.

After 50 seconds, the floor supervisor advised Martin that he had 10 seconds left to make a decision, at which time Martin said there was no chance that he had used up almost his entire time bank. However, there was no arguing with Father Time, and Martin mucked his had.

666 Not Such a Bad Thing After All?

Joshua Gibson made it 23,000 to go from under the gun and was called by Kyle Knecht in the cutoff as well as the small blind, David Tuthill and the big blind, Jason Fazzone.

The flop came {j-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} and Gibson led out with a bet of 65,000. Knecht folded and Tuthill pushed all in causing Fazzone to fold. However, Tuthill was met by a snap-call from Gibson for his last 192,000 chips and they were off to the races.

Tuthill: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Gibson: {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}

Things were looking bleak for Tuthill, as Gibson's set held through the {4-Hearts} on the turn and the {2-Diamonds} on the river.

Tuthill is down to 300,000 and Gibson is up to 500,000

"Ya Gotta Win the Races"

Winning races is key to success in large tournaments, of this much we are certain.

Calvin Kordus did just that after calling a three-bet shove from Huy Nguyen. Nguyen tabled {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}, Kordus opened {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} and off we went.

The flop brought a great sweat: {9-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}. Kordus picked up a myriad of outs, and the {Q-Hearts} on the turn was certainly one of them. Nguyen was drawing slim going to the river, and didn't find any help from the {9-Hearts}.

Kordus was shipped the pot, chipping up to 510,000 while Nguyen headed to the cage to pick up his 30th place price money: $12,426

"Ya gotta win the races," Kordus professed to his table after the hand.

Ain't that the truth sir.

Double Up for Dion Flores

Dion Flores opened the pot from the hijack seat with a 30,000 bet and Calvin Kordus went all in for 63,000 more on the button. The blinds folded and action was back on Flores who eventually called.

Showdown:

Dion Flores: {10-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}
Calvin Kordus: {a-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

Board: {9-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

Flores doubled up to 180,000 chips and Kordus slipped to 340,000 chips.

Double Up for Santiago Nadal

Santiago Nadal opened the pot with a 22,000 raise under the gun and Joshua Gibson popped it to 48,000. Nadal went all in for 194,000 more and got called.

Showdown:

Santiago Nadal: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Joshua Gibson: {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}

Board: {3-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{a-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{4-Spades}

The hand resulted in a double up for Nadal who has now 510,000 chips, which puts him equal with Gibson.

Carr Donates to the Sands Fund

Alexander Carr made it 24,000 to go from late position when David Sands re-raised to 62,000 on the button. Carr retaliated with an all-in raise and Sands made the call.

Sands: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Carr: {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}

The flop was good enough for Carr when it came {q-Hearts}{8-Spades}{5-Diamonds}, but took a gut-wrenching turn on later streets by pairing twice with the {5-Hearts} on the turn and {8-Clubs} on the river, which Sands loudly requested from the dealer.

Carr is now at 315,000, and Sands is up to 560,000.

Just What the Doctor Ordered

Jack "Doctor Fun" Powell just received a well-timed double-up from Donald Offord.

Action folded to Offord in the cutoff who opened to 20,000. The button folded, and Powell moved all-in for 122,000 from the small blind. The big blind released, and Offord tank-called.

Offord: {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}
Powell: {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}

Offord jumped out to a lead after the dealer flopped {Q-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}, but Powell was drawing to a flush. Powell hit his flush with the {6-Diamonds} on the turn, and after the {2-Hearts} blanked on the river he was awarded the pot to more than double to 260,000 chips.

Offord slipped to 405,000 chips.
