Dinner Bell Rings . . . For Some Anyway

The remaining thirty-one tables are scheduled to go on a ninety-minute dinner break.

However with some tables quite short with four, three and two players remaining, they have come to an agreement to play straight through until they have a winner.

So for now, go grab some dinner, check out some of the other events that are going on today and then join us soon for some of the continued action from Event 6: $5,000 No Limit Holdem Shootout!

Akenhead Advances

James Akenhead has advanced to Day 2 after eliminating his opponent on Table 2.

He and his opponent got it all-in on a {9-Spades}{6-Spades}{3-Diamonds} flop, Akenhead holding {K-Spades}{7-Spades} and his opponent holding {8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}.

The {7-Hearts} moved Akenhead in the lead and the {8-Spades} on the river gave him a spade flush for kicks and giggles.

Tony G is Chopped then Busted

Tony G had a great opportunity to double through Josh Tieman, but chopped and then was eliminated.

The board read {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{7-Diamonds} when Tony G and Tieman got all the chips in and opened their hands.

Tony G: {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs}
Tieman: {A-Spades}{10-Spades}

Tony G was freerolling with clubs, but the river was red; the {Q-Diamonds}.

A few moments later Tony G busted. We missed the hand unfortunately, but we saw him leave the tournament area as Tieman waited for a tournament director.

Liebert Stays Alive

Chris Ferguson opened to 2,000 from the button and Kathy Liebert made the call to see a {10-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{8-Clubs} flop fall.

Liebert checked and Ferguson fired out 2,500 only to have Liebert make it 7,000 to go. After some deliberation, Ferguson splashed the pot with his stack of 5,000-denomination chips amounting to a raise to 42,500 to effectively put Liebert all in.

With only 22,000 remaining, Liebert made the call for her tournament life tabling her {J-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} to be in bad shape against Ferguson's {K-Hearts}{10-Spades}.

Fortunately for Liebert the turn and river ran out the {2-Clubs} and {9-Clubs} to see a flush on the board and both players taking their chips back.

Vedes Wins Key Race

It was a standard race situation between Tommy Vedes and James Collopy. They got 90,000 chips in the middle and the hands were tabled:

Vedes: {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}
Collopy: {J-}{J-}

The board ran {A-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{5-Clubs}{5-Spades} and Vedes became the chip leader three-handed. Collopy slipped to 20,000 chips.
