Shirley Bluffing

A player raised to 10,000 from early position and Tony Campagna called from the button. Marlon Shirley called from the big blind.

The flop came down {K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{J-Clubs} and Shirley checked. The preflop raised checked as did Campagna.

The turn brought the {5-Clubs} and Shirley bet 16,000. Both his opponents folded and Shirley showed the {4-Clubs}{2-Clubs} for the bluff. He's now up to 202,000.

Straate to the Top

Benjamin Straate has just eliminated another player to add to his already massive stack. Kai Paulson was the victim this time and the two got all the chips in the middle preflop:

Showdown
Straate: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Paulson: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}

The {10-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{7-Spades} flop pushed Straate way ahead, and Paulson stood from his chair trying to will a jack to make broadway. Neither the turn ({6-Hearts}) nor the river ({8-Clubs}) completed that straight though, and Paulson was eliminated from the tournament.

With the knockout, Straate now sits with 950,000 chips.

Hougaard Passes 700K

"Did you have queens?" Jesper Hougaard asked an opponent after a recent hand. "I put you on queens."

Hougaard had put on the third pre-flop raise from the button, re-raising to 54,000 after an early-position player opened for 8,000 and a middle-position player bumped it to 22,500. Only the middle-position player called Hougaard's raise.

Both men checked a nine-high flop, {2-Spades}{9-Spades}{7-Hearts}. On the {4-Clubs} turn, Hougaard's opponent tried a bet of 75,000. Hougaard called that bet to the {j-Hearts} river. There his opponent checked and folded to a bet of 61,000.

Incidentally, after the hand and after Hougaard asked, Hougaard's opponent claimed to have folded ace-king. Hougaard now has 730,000 in chips.

Brikis Back Up

Josh Brikis was heads-up in a pot, and we walked up just in time to see him call a bet of 12,000 on a flop of {A-Spades} {5-Clubs} {K-Spades}.

That brought he and his opponent to the {6-Spades} turn, and Brikis fired out 30,000 now. His opponent moved all in for about 50,000, and Brikis called to put him at risk. The all-in player had some improving to do:

Brikis: {Q-Spades} {8-Spades}
Opponent: {6-} {6-}

"What a sick turn card," Brikis said, in the lead with his flush. He needed to dodge a board pair to earn the knockout, and the {9-Spades} river kept him in front and moved him back up to 600,000 after a sluggish first three hours of his day.

Antonius Loses One

From the hijack seat, Patrik Antonius raised to 9,000. The player in the small blind made the call and the flop came down {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{7-Spades}. The small blind checked which prompted a bet of 13,000 from Antonius. He was called.

The turn brought the {4-Diamonds} and both players checked to see the {6-Diamonds} fall on the river. Antonius called a bet of 14,000 from his opponent and mucked when the {A-Spades}{10-Diamonds} was shown to him. Antonius dropped to 104,000 in chips.

Richey Poorer

Brett Richey just now found himself up against a short-stacked player who was all in before the flop for 68,400 total with {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} and was in a good spot versus Richey's {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}.

The board ran out {8-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{8-Spades}, and Richey's opponent doubled up. Meanwhile, Richey slips to 140,000.

Annie Duke Eliminated

Annie Duke
Annie Duke

Mori Eskandani started this hand off by raising to 11,000 from early position. Annie Duke was in the cutoff and raised to about 50,000, putting herself all in. Corwin Cole then shoved all in over the top for 15,000 and Eskandani folded.

Duke: {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}
Cole: {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}

Duke needed a lot of help from the poker gods if she was going to keep her tournament run alive. However, the board came down {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{8-Spades} leaving her with a full house, but not a full house that could beat that of Cole.

Duke made her way to the exit and we are one player closer to the money.

Soulier Set Straight

Fabrice Soulier got into it from the big blind with a player in the small blind. They were heads up to a {j-Spades}{10-Hearts}{9-Clubs} flop. The small blind checked, then called when Soulier bet 8,000. The turn was the {2-Hearts}, and this time, the small blind check-called 14,000. The {8-Spades} river put four to a straight on the board, and the small blind checked a third time. Soulier checked behind, and his opponent tabled {q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} for the rivered straight. Soulier flashed a set of nines that could have been so much more useful. Soulier dropped the minimum to move down to 325,000.

Duy Le the Top Dog

On the board of {9-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{2-Clubs}, Duy Le fired 30,000. His opponent made the call and the {3-Clubs} fell on the river. Le fired another 80,000 and his opponent called. Le showed the {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} for the mother of all overpairs and his opponent mucked his pocket jacks.

Le's now up to what looks to be just under one million at 995,000.
