Court-ing Elimination

Court Harrington during Day 1a
Court Harrington during Day 1a

Court Harrington was all in before the flop for about 135,000 with {8-Clubs} {8-Hearts}. Unfortunately for Court, he ran his eights into the one-better {9-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} of Nikolay Losev.

The board ran {4-Clubs} {4-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {6-Spades} {4-Spades}, and Harrington could not find any salvation from the dealer. He's out one spot shy of the first pay bump, and Losev has climbed to 265,000.

Adelstein's Up

Garrett Adelstein just eliminated a short-stacked player at his table. All the action was preflop, and it was a race situation between Adelstein's {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} and his opponent's {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}.

The board ran {2-Clubs}{10-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}, and Adelstein's stack increased to 1,130,000 chips.

Somerville's Cape Gets Tangled

Jason Somerville had a tough decision at the river of a {k-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} board. He was one of two players to check and call a bet of 26,000 on the flop. After the turn was checked through, Somerville checked the river. The second player to act then bet 48,000, folding the flop aggressor. That left Somerville unsure what to do.

"This is going to be one of those pots where I put my money in and then say, 'Oh, is *that* all you have,'" said Somerville. "Or I could all and be a hero. There is hero happiness..."

Ultimately Somerville put on his cape and made the call, but he couldn't beat {k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for two pair, kings and fours.

The Other David Williams Doubles

David Williams (no not THAT David Williams, but another gentleman who shares the same name) was all in preflop for his last 78,000 holding {A-Spades}{K-Spades} against Ryan Young's {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}.

The board fell {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} and Williams spiked an ace from space on the river to double through to 170,000. Young fell to 255,000.

"Jesus, I'm like 0 for 10 in all-ins during this tournament," sighed Young, "If I win those I'd have like 700 thousand...Or like 1.5 million."

Something like that.

Kassela Knocked Out, Assured Share of WSOP POY

In the second hand back from the break, Frank Kassela raised to 17,000 from middle position, and it folded around to the blinds. The player in the small blind reraised all in, then the big blind -- who had both players covered -- went all in as well.

Kassela showed {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}, the player in the small blind showed {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}, and the BB tabled {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}.

The flop came {7-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{3-Spades}, giving the SB the one queen left in the deck to make his set. The big blind immediately began calling for spades, and one came on the turn, the {4-Spades}. The dealer then burned a card and dealt fifth street -- the {2-Spades}! The flush came in, and two players, including Frank Kassela, were eliminated.

By making the cash, Kassela ensures himself at least a share of the WSOP Player of the Year title. And if Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi doesn't win the whole ball of wax, Kassela will take the POY outright.

The main feature table is waiting to fill some empty seats right now. Mizrachi, by the way, is sitting on 92,000.

Rosenkrantz Ducks Out

Right off the bat we lost Jay Rosenkrantz who found himself all in with {Q-Diamonds}{10-Spades} versus {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}. The {4-Spades}{8-Hearts}{4-Clubs} flop was of little use, as was the {3-Spades}, and despite using his finger as a magic wand and pointing at the felt, the {5-Spades} river was a blank.

"Good game, good playing with you," he said as he lifted a black duck from the table.

Chiu Rockets Up to 9 Big Blinds

It folded around to David Chiu, who pushed for his last 35,000 in the cutoff. Theo Jorgensen folded his button, both blinds folded too, and Chiu picked up the blinds and antes.

"I swear to god, I didn't look at my cards," he told the table, "I only looked at one," - and showed everyone {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}.

Break: Color-Up Time

Tim McDonald receives a comped buy-in for the 2011 WSOP Main Event from Jack Effel
Tim McDonald receives a comped buy-in for the 2011 WSOP Main Event from Jack Effel

The bubble is burst and players are falling rapidly in the 2010 Main Event.

This year's bubble boy was the bluegrass state's own Tim McDonald. McDonald ran two queens into a flopped full house and was the 748th player eliminated from the tournament. McDonald receives a buy-in into next year's Main Event, and we wish him better fortune in 2011.

Since we've reached the money, 54 players have busted and while players are dropping like flies, Matt Affleck is still atop our counts with 1,495,000 chips.

We're on a brief, 20-minute break to color up the T500 chips. See ya in a bit!
