MacPhee Loses Ground

Kevin MacPhee opened to 300 from the cutoff seat, and he was called in three places.

The four players took a flop of {A-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} {5-Hearts}, and action checked to MacPhee. He continued out with a bet of 450. The button called, and the other two players ducked out, and it was heads up to the turn. It was the {10-Hearts}, and MacPhee checked to his opponent this time. When the button bet 725, though, MacPhee check-raised to 2,500 and his opponent called. MacPhee bet 5,000 on the {Q-Spades} river, and the button called one last time.

At showdown, MacPhee tabled {A-Spades} {4-Hearts} for top pair, but his hand was second-best. The button showed down {A-Diamonds} {J-Hearts}, his kicker being good enough to take the pot.
