Corkins Thought Wrong

Hoyt Corkins was out of position for a flop of {8-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. He checked, then called a bet of 23,000 from Nathan Meyvis. Both players checked the {5-Clubs} turn and {6-Clubs} river. At showdown, Meyvis produced the smallest possible pair, {2-Hearts}{2-Spades}. Corkins flashed {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}, slapped his cards against each other and then pitched them in to the dealer.

"I thought I had the best hand," said Corkins. He's down to 495,000.
