Williamson Moves to 26K

Level 6 : 100/200, 25 ante

Robert Williamson III just moved his stack up to 26,000 after busting a player from the event. He was able to get his pocket queens all in with his opponent's {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts} and hold up. The player did flop a flush draw on the {J-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{6-Clubs} flop, but the {9-Diamonds} turn and {5-Spades} river were of no help.

Veldhuis Nearly Triples Up in Big Pot

Level 5 : 100/200, 0 ante

Lex Veldhuis min raised under the gun to 400 and was called by the cutoff and the big blind. The flop came out {3-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{2-Clubs}. The big blind bet out 625, and Veldhuis called. The cutoff then announced all in, and before he could slide his chips into the pot, the big blind and Veldhuis had already gotten their money in. The players flipped their cards, and Veldhuis was a good favorite.

Cutoff: {j-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
Big Blind: {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Veldhuis: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}

The turn came a {6-} and the river was the {a-Clubs}. Veldhuis faded his opponents outs and dragged the pot to up his stack to 12,500.

The Body Count

Level 5 : 100/200, 0 ante

We have just confirmed with the WSOP tournament staff that the official number of players in this year's $1,500 Six Handed No Limit Handed event is 1,920 - the biggest tournament of the series to date. No doubt that we'll get bigger numbers over the next couple of weeks, but it's still a significant increase from the same event last year, which had 1,663 players.

At present, there are 890 players remaining, but unfortunately, Kirk Morrison is not one on them. Having run pocket threes into pocket sevens in an earlier hand, Morrison moved the last of his stack into the middle with {10-}{2-} but failed to improve against Brent Hanks' {Q-}{8-}.

Brecher's Back

Level 5 : 100/200, 0 ante
Steve Brecher
Steve Brecher

Shortly after we reported that Steve Brecher was hurting after his failed bluff, he is now back to over 10,000. We caught the action on a flop of {6-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{5-Spades}. Brecher bet out, and his opponent raised him. Brecher thought for a few seconds before deciding to go all in for a shade over 5,000 total, and his opponent called.

Brecher: {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}
Opponent: {j-Spades}{9-Spades}

Brecher's opponent was drawing thin, and was unable to catch the runner runner he needed to win, as the turn and river came {q-Clubs}{j-Hearts}. Brecher won the pot, and is now back to around 11,000.

I'm Stackin' Up, Stackin' Up, Stackin' Up, Staaackin' Up ...

... 'Cause my daddy taught me good. Ahem!

It's time for another round of chip counts, and you'll notice that Nam Le and Humberto Brenes are amongst those to have hit the rail.

While we weren't able to get the details of Le's bust-out, we can tell you that Brenes got the last of his money in with {A-}{J-}, but ran into an opponent's {A-}{Q-}. And Brad Garrett is now up to almost 10,000 in chips after his {A-}{J-} held up against another opponent's {A-}{7-}.

Meanwhile, John Myung, who's just come off a third-place finish from Event #6 last night, is up to 20,000 after he smashed an opponent's {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} with his {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}.

Brecher Gets Caught Bluffing

Level 5 : 100/200, 0 ante

We caught the action with all five cards on the board, {a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{8-Spades}{j-Clubs}. Steve Brecher had the action checked to him by his opponent, and Brecher fired out 2,200, about the size of the pot. His opponent thought for a few seconds before calling, and Brecher said, "You win," flipping up {9-Spades}{7-Spades} for a missed straight draw. His opponent showed {j-Spades}{5-Spades} for jacks and eights to take the pot, dropping Brecher down to 2,500.

Hinkle's Set Scores a Knockout

Level 5 : 100/200, 0 ante

We caught the action between Blair Hinkle and his opponent on the turn with the board reading {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{9-Hearts}. Hinkle checked to his opponent, who bet 775. Hinkle then check-raised to 2075, and his opponent shoved all in for just a bit more. Hinkle called, and showed {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} for a turned set. His opponent showed {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts} for an open-ended straight draw. The river came the {a-Clubs}, and Hinkle scooped the pot to get up to 17,000.
