2005 Main Event runner-up Steve Dannenmann is heads up at his table as well, though he has a big mountain to climb as his opponent has over a 3-to-1 chip lead.
In our last run through of the floor just a couple of minutes ago, Daniel Negreanu's table was 4 handed and he was an average stack. We just went back and he has chipped up and is heads up with a slight chip deficit. We will be sure to keep a close eye on that heads up match.
It's been a pretty terrible last five minutes for the UK players. Chris Moorman lost with to , while former WSOP bracelet winner James Dempsey lost a flip. The players were all congregating long enough to see Tom Middleton all in with against and the board come .

So far a total of 1,438 players have taken to the felt today in this shootout event. That bests last year's registration of 1,397 by more than 40 players so far and with late registration open until the end of level four, it is possible that today's number may rise a bit more.
There are now quite a few tables playing either heads up or three handed, but that doesn't mean we're near the end as a good number of the tables are still chock full of players as well. Stay tuned for more exciting action!
We came to the table as Allen Kessler had put his chips in the middle preflop and got one caller. The two players flipped their cards and it was a classic race situation.

We have our first winner of the day, and its Alex Melnikow. He told us as he was handing his players card to the WSOP officials that he knocked out everyone at his table! Melnikow is done for the day, and will be coming back tomorrow to try to duplicate his success today.

Eric Mizrachi and another player got all the chips in preflop with Mizrachi's leading the other player's . The flop basically sealed the deal when it came leaving the other player drawing to running tens or running kings for a chop. The turn was the securing the win for Mizrachi and the river was an insignificant .
The other player was eliminated while Mizrachi chipped up to 19,000.
