There is sure to be a lot of interesting conversation at table #6 over in the black section. Gavin Smith and Phil Laak are seated next to each other and we already caught a bit of banter from them.
Smith was trying to argue that because Laak's name has two a's in it, that it should be pronounced "lack." He said jokingly, "You've been pronouncing your name wrong your whole life!" Laak then made some comment about an umlaut and Smith replied "I don't even know what an umlaut is!"
We're sure the humorous quips will continue at that table throughout the day.
These players were alittle late to their seats, but we caught them on the second run through of the section.
Maria Ho(seated next to Justin Bonomo)
Greg Mueller and Dwyte Pilgrim(same table)
This field is chock full of well known players. Here are more we've spotted!
Gavin Smith and Phil Laak (same table)
This is one of the pro's favorite events, so we were expecting a ton of big names, and the yellow section didn't disappoint.
Jeff Lisandro and Justin Young (same table)
Defending Champion Steven Kelly
Allen "Chainsaw" Kessler
Faraz Jaka and Chad Brown (same table)
Scott Clements and David Pham (same table)
Welcome back to the Rio! Today we have one of the most exciting events of the year, Event #13: $1500 No-Limit Holdem Shootout.
Last year, Steven Kelly outlasted a whopping field of 1397 players to take home the first prize and a total of $381,922. Annette Obrestad and JC Tran both made it to the final day last year, but fell just short of the final table.
For those that are unfamiliar with how a shootout works, its essentially a tournament of sit n gos. Today there will be 10 players at each table, and the goal is to win your table and move on to tomorrow. If you do that, you will already be in the money! It should be an action packed day, so be sure to stay tuned with Pokernews for up to the minute coverage all day!
