Kassela KO'd

Level 8 : 250/500, 50 ante

Preflop action had resulted in Frank Kassela (button) and a lone opponent (big blind) seeing a flop come {9-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{9-Spades}. Kassela's opponent checked, he bet 1,700, his opponent check-raised to 4,600, and Kassela called. The turn brought the {Q-Hearts} and a bet of 5,500 from the BB, which Kassela snap-called.

The river was the {2-Spades}, prompting Kassela's opponent to announce he was all in. Kassela, with just about 10,000 left, quickly called, and his opponent showed {10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} for trip nines. Kassela mucked, saying he'd had {A-}{K-} as he did, and soon after made his exit.

Brikis Busts

Josh Brikis moved all in for his last 4,000 or so with {5-Hearts}{5-Spades}. An opponent holding {a-Spades}{2-Spades} had him at risk, and vaulted into the lead when the flop fell {q-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{6-Spades}. Brikis was gathering his things as the {9-Hearts} turned, and was already halfway towards the exit once the {3-Spades} hit the river.

Dorfman Chips Up, Channing Dusted

Level 8 : 250/500, 50 ante

The dust was already settling after a huge battle had concluded between Neil Channing and Randy Dorfman. Channing had about 55,000 to start the hand, and had been dealt {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}. Dorfman had just a little more than that when he was dealt {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}. The five community cards had come {8-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{9-Spades}{K-Spades}, meaning Dorfman had a full house. And now all of those chips.

Channing hits the rail, while Dorfman now appears to be our leader with about 115,000.

Selbst Fighting Back

Vanessa Selbst has halved her stack since returning from dinner break, but just got some back in a hand against Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi.

Mizrachi opened to 1,000 on the button, Selbst three-bet to 3,200 from the small blind, and Mizrachi called. The flop came down {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}, Selbst led for 3,800, and Mizrachi called.

The turn was the {9-Spades}, and Selbst led again - this time for 9,300. Mizrachi could not continue, folding his hand, which sent the pot to Selbst.

Schulman Chips Up

Level 7 : 200/400, 50 ante

Nick Schulman raised to 900 from the cutoff. The player in the big blind called and Dimitry Gromov called from the button. The flop ran out {4-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{q-Spades}. The player in the big blind checked and Schulman made it 1,700. Gromov called and the player in the big blind folded.

The {9-Spades} fell on the turn and both players checked. The river brought the {2-Clubs} and both players checked again. Schulman flipped up {6-Hearts}{5-Hearts} to take down the pot.

Schulman sits with around 30,000 and Gromov sits with around 23,500.

Mercier Looking for More

Level 7 : 200/400, 50 ante

Jason Mercier opened with a raise to 800 from under the gun and got two callers from the button and big blind. The flop came all hearts -- {8-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{6-Hearts}. It checked to the player on the button who bet 1,600, the big blind folded, and Mercier called. The turn was the {Q-Diamonds}, and both players checked.

The river brought the {K-Diamonds}. This time Mercier bet 3,500, and his opponent folded, flashing the {7-Hearts} as he did.

Mercier, currently is wearing the WSOP bracelet he received earlier this afternoon for winning Event #35, now sits with about 21,000.

Devilfish Fills Up

Level 7 : 200/400, 50 ante

We just picked up a hand involving Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott (cutoff) and a lone opponent (button). The flop had come {K-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and Ulliott's opponent was betting 2,300. Ulliott called the bet, and both watched the turn come {9-Clubs}, pairing the board. The player in the cutoff pushed out 2,000 this time, and Ulliott again made the call.

The river was the {Q-Spades}. Ulliott's opponent bet 3,000, and the Devilfish responded by setting out a raise to 20,000, plenty enough to cover his opponent who only had about 5,000 behind. He made the call, showing {K-}{Q-} for two pair, but was dead in the water against Devilfish's {K-Spades}{9-Spades} -- a full house.

Another player hits the rail, as Ulliott chips up to 39,000.

A Hairy Situation

Level 7 : 200/400, 50 ante

One of the tournament directors was standing by Frank Kassela's table just now talking with the players about Amsterdam. The TD shared that he'd spent an entire month there a while back. Pointing to the TD's bald head, Kassela joked that he must've had a good time as he had hair before the trip.

As the table chuckled at Kassela's remark players folded around to the 2010 WSOP Player of the Year who raised to 1,100 from the button, getting one caller in the big blind. The flop came {9-Spades}{4-Spades}{8-Spades}, and the BB unhesitatingly bet 1,400. Kassela quickly called. The turn brought a fourth spade, the {K-Spades}, and both checked. They again both checked the {Q-Hearts} river.

When the player in the big blind paused, Kassela turned over his hand -- {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} -- and his opponent mucked.

"Great f***ing board," Kassela cracked in a what-can-you-do tone. "Finally get aces and have to look at four spades...."

Kassela still has plenty of hair left himself, although he might have pulled out a few there. He's sitting with about 30,000 at the moment.
