Alekhin Takes Huge Chip Lead From Jacques

Vincent Jacques - Caught.
Vincent Jacques - Caught.

Wow, this is a biggy.

Vincent Jacques raised to 25,000 from the button and Stanislav Alekhin made it 62,000 from the big blind which Jacques called.

Both players checked the {7-Spades}{8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} flop before Alekhin check-called 60,000 on the {Q-Hearts} turn. The river was the {10-Diamonds} and Alekhin check-called a huge 170,000 bet on the {10-Diamonds} river.

Jacques showed a complete bluff {K-Hearts}{J-Clubs} and had been caught by Alekhin's {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}. The Russian is a massive chip leader now.

Dunkin' Lunkin

Vitaly Lunkin had seemingly three-bet to 20,000 from the big blind against the UTG raise, only for the latter to four-bet to 64,000. Lunkin moved all in with {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} and immediately was snap-called by {A-Clubs}{A-Spades} which held on a {3-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{3-Clubs} board.

Lunkin Climbs Back Up

We came into this pot with the board reading {9-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} and 50,000 + already in the pot.

A middle position player bet 20,000 more into the pot on the river and Vitaly Lunkin called him down. The player showed {j-}{10-} for nothing but a missed straight draw, and Lunkin showed {a-}{a-} for the best starting hand in poker to hold up. Lunkin at one point was down to under 50,000, but now has built himself back up to around 180,000

Terrance Chan Gets The Boot

Terrence Chan
Terrence Chan

On a flop of {10-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds} Sebastien Roy checked, an under-the-gun player bet out 16,500, Terrence Chan called, Roy moved all in for a total of 128,000, the under-the-gun player folded and Chan made the call.

Roy: {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Chan: {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}

Chan was in the lead with a pair of aces, but any diamond would essentially lock up the win for Roy. The turn came the {2-Diamonds} to give Roy the flush, and the river was a meaningless {5-Spades}. After a count, they found out that Roy had Chan covered and that was it for him.

As Chan hits the rail, Roy moves up to 245,000

The Chip Leaders, Russian to the Top

Team PokerStars Pro Max Lykov is up among the chip leaders, as is Stanislav Alekhin - the player who finished second to John Juanda in the WSOPE main event in 2009. But both are currently behind Canadian Vincent Jacques who is looking like he'll be the first person over the half-million mark.

Schleger Crippled

Shane Schleger
Shane Schleger

Shane Schleger and another player at his table with about 95,000 got it all in on a flop of {8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}

Schleger held {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} for sixes and an open-ended straight draw against the {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} of the all in player. The turn and river were {7-Hearts} {a-Hearts} and Schleger did not improve. He has fallen to a mere 25,000 and will need help to get back into it.
