Hewitt Helps Himself

Level 33 : 120,000/240,000, 30,000 ante
John Hewitt
John Hewitt

John Hewitt raised to 500,000 from early position, and it folded all of the way around to Konstantinos Mamaliadis in the big blind who called. The flop came {Q-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. Mamaliadis checked, Hewitt bet 675,000, then Mamaliadis check-raised to 1.375 million. Hewitt paused, then called the raise.

The turn brought the {J-Spades} and a check from Mamaliadis. Hewitt waited a short while, then pushed out a bet of 1 million. Mamaliadis called.

The river was the {8-Clubs}. Mamaliadis checked one more time, and Hewitt quickly slid out a column of lavender chips, a bet of 2.3 million. Mamaliadis sat in thought for at least a couple of minutes, chewing his gum slowly as he contemplated the situation. Finally he folded.

Hewitt is closing in on 19 million now, while Mamaliadis has about 7.7 million.
