Stewart Settles for a Chop

Ty Stewart
Ty Stewart

We caught up with the action when Ty Stewart, who had already raised from the cutoff, was faced with a re-raise all-in from the player on the button. Stewart mulled it over a bit, but eventually decided to call.

His opponent revealed {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}, to which Stewart groaned and flipped over {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}

The board ran out {9-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{A-Spades}{2-Diamonds}, leaving both players with the same hand. After the dealer chopped it up, Stewart was left with 39,000.

Crystal Quibell Continues to Rise

Crystal Quibell came back from the dinner sitting on a fairly short stack of 6,400 with the blinds at 300/600. However, she has had a great level so far, and is now sitting on almost 20,000. In the last hand, we saw Quibell raise under the gun to 1,600. She just got one call from a player in middle position, and the two saw a flop of {3-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}.

Quibell wasted little time in firing out a bet of 3,500, and her opponent wasted even less time calling. The turn brought the {j-Spades}, and Quibell wasn't deterred by her opponent's quick call on the flop. She moved all in for 7,750, and her opponent tanked for about 15 seconds before folding. Quibell is now sitting on 19,400.

Women Well Represented So Far

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante

We are winding down towards the top 100, with 135 players left, and we noticed that there were a good number of ladies still in the event. We did a count on the remaining tables, and we tallied 16 women who are still in, accounting for over 10% of the remaining field. One of those is Trish Baker, who has been one of the big stacks in the room for the past few hours, currently sitting at 45,000. We will be sure to keep an eye on the rest of the remaining female players.

Quibell's Queens Save the Day

Action began with a player in early position who raised to 1,600. A player in middle position flatted and action folded around to Crystal Quibell, who squeezed all in for about 4,800 total. The player in the big blind then announced he was all in himself for several thousand more, sending the original raiser deep into the tank. He eventually folded, as did the middle-position player.

Quibell flipped over a pair of queens, much to the dismay to her opponent, who grimaced and revealed two jacks.

The board ran out {4-}{3-}{5-}{A-}{A-} and Quibell scooped the sizable pot - chipping back up to 13,300.

Lots of Drew Brees Fans in the Tournament

Level 7 : 300/600, 75 ante
Brees Jersey
Brees Jersey

Sports jerseys are a common attire choice for poker players, and today was no different. To the best of our knowledge, we've seen four players wearing NFL jerseys. But here's the funny thing. All 4 of them were wearing Drew Brees New Orleans Saints #9 jerseys! There appears to only be one left, so all of the Drew Brees clan's hopes ride on him!

Routos On a Roll

We caught up to the action just in time to see Nicolas Vaca bet out 1300 preflop. When it got to James Routos in middle position he raised and made it 4,000 to see a flop. A third player then moved all in for 14,975 more. Vaca folded and Routos went into the tank. After debating his options for a few moments Routos made the call and cards were flipped.

Routos: {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}
Opponent: {Q-}{Q-}

The {A-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop allowed for Routos to take an early lead and with a {8-Clubs} on the turn and a {3-Clubs} on the river secured a win for Routos who now has moved back into one of the top stacks.

Tian's Roller Coaster Continues

Haiyan Tian has been up and down all day, and she has just hit another bump in the road shortly after the dinner break. A player in early position raised to 2,000, leaving himself just 2,000 more behind. Action folded all the way around to Tian in the small blind, and she made the call. The big blind folded, and the two saw a flop of {8-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{4-Spades}. Tian thought for about 20 seconds before putting her opponent all in, and he beat her into the pot. The cards were flipped, and Tian would need a ton of help.

Tian: {a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Opponent: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}

Tian would need an ace or runner runner straight, and she got no help on the turn, the {8-Spades}. The river brought the {9-Spades}, and Tian sent the double up over to her opponent, knocking her down to 12,000.
