Table #35 is a table full of talent. In seat 1 we have the talented Dutch pro Lex Veldhuis. Veldhuis has had a very quiet 2012 with not one single cash to his name, despite taking ElkY's head off in a kick boxing match staged in Marbella earlier this year. Despite his barren run Veldhuis has 12 World Series of Poker cashes including 1 final table in 2009 where he finished in 7th place in the $40,000 No-Limit Hold'em event.
Mickey Petersen takes the number five seat. Petersen is an online legend who recently added a European Poker Tour main event victory to his resume. Petersen won the difficult stage held in Copenhagen earlier this year and has 4 WSOP cashes to his name including a 292nd place in Event #9A $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Re-Entry.
Rounding off the table is British Pro Richard Trigg. Trigg is wearing his England football shirt in honor of his beloved team who square off against the French today. Trigg has 3 WSOP cashes to his name including 1 final table in the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Triple Chance last year where he finished in 6th spot for $55,355.
Here are a few hands from that table:
Richard Trigg raised to 125 from the button and Fabrice Soulier defended the big blind. The flop was and Soulier check-called a 150 Trigg bet. Onto fourth street and the pair shared the and the same action ensued; this time for 350. Finally there was the on the river, Soulier checked, Trigg fired his third barrel for 725, Soulier check-raised to 2,350 and Trigg folded his hand.
Then Lex Veldhuis raised to 125 in the hijack, Soulier called in the cutoff before the player on the button squeezed for 450 in total. Veldhuis folded, Soulier made the call and we were heads-up to the flop. The dealer placed the onto the felt and both players checked. On the turn we had the and Soulier took down the pot with a 675 lead.
Triple Crown winner Jake Cody is in the house and already has 16,000 in front of him.
"How did you get those Jake?" We asked.
" I just keep flopping sets," said Cody.
The man with over $3 million in live tournament earnings to his name is still waiting to notch up his first World Series of Poker (WSOP) cash this year.
Kyle Bowker has just been asked a serious river question over at Table #1. The board was out and Bowker's opponent had moved all-in. The bet was for 4,350 and although it wouldn't have eliminated Bowker it would have stung.
"I can't beat your aces-full," said Bowker before folding.
Bowker still has 8,500, just below starting stack.
Another river and another decision this time for 2010 WSOP Player of the Year Frank Kassella. The board was reading and Kassella's opponent had moved all-in for 6,675. Kassella eventually decided to fold but still has twice his starting stack with 12,000.
We believe Isaac Haxton may have been eliminated. We saw him paying off an opponent for 3,100 on a board of earlier. His opponent held and Haxton mucked his hand. He was down to around 2,500 and there is now an empty space where his posterior once resided.
Darren Elias has just doubled up. He managed to get it all-in pre flop holding . His opponent held and the board ran out .
Yesterday was one of the great days in World Series of Poker (WSOP) history with both Phil Hellmuth and Phil Ivey both going heads-up in their respective events as they tried to go for WSOP gold number 12 and 9 respectively.
Hellmuth won his event but Ivey just fell short in the $10,000 Pot-Limit Hold'em event. There are a group of players who went deep in that event playing this morning. They include Manuel Bevand (5th), Ryan Julius (10th), Patrick Cronin (14th), David Benyamine (16th), Cary Katz (17th) & Bertrand Grospellier (18th).
Melanie Weisner is regarding by many as being one of the best heads-up players in the game. How is her six-max promise? Well we think it is not bad. Overall last year she cashed in an impressive 5 events and two of them were in the six-handed format. We just saw her laying down her hand on the river after being the recipient of an all-in jam for 7,300 from another female opponent who is sharing her table. The board was and Weisner decided to wait for a better spot. She has 11,000 chips.
Andrea Dato may not be a familiar name to most of you. The Italian professional is regarding as one of the best six-max cash game players in Italy but he can also play tournaments as well. Earlier this year he made back-to-back World Poker Tour (WPT) Venice final tables finishing 3rd and 4th respectively cashing in over $150,000 in earnings. He also has WSOP form with a 3rd place cash in the $1,500 No-Limit Hold-em event held last year for $138,044. Dato is mingling with Arnaud Mattern and we just saw the two embroiled in a small pot.
The flop was , Mattern checked in the small blind, the big blind checked and Dato bet 400 from the cutoff. Back to Mattern and he made the call before the big blind folded. The turn card was the and Mattern won the pot with a 600 bet. Dato has 14,000 and Mattern has 7,000.
The French are well presented this year at the World Series of Poker (WSOP). Yesterday Manuel Bevand came extremely close to securing a bracelet in the $10,000 Pot-Limit Hold'em event finishing in 5th place and he is here today, and two more French players cashed in that event and are also in the field. David Benyamine finished in 16th place for $23,876. Benyamine has sixteen WSOP cashes to his name and 1 WSOP bracelet. Here he is getting involved in a pot with the super-human computer-brained Randy Lew.
Benyamine raised to 200 under the gun, Randy Lew three-bet to 675 from the hijack and Benyamine made the call. The action checked through to the turn on a board of and Lew took down the pot with a 700 bet. Benyamine has 12,700 and Lew has 8,550.
Bertrand "ElkY Grospellier also has excellent WSOP form. He cashed in 18th place in the $10,000 Pot-Limit Hold'em event to take his total number of WSOP cashes up to 17 including 1 WSOP bracelet. He is not fairing too well in this tournament though. We just saw him paying off a river bet of 650 on a board of versus an opponent holding . ElkY is down to 2,200.
World Series of Poker (WSOP) champion Fabrice Soulier is not going to be participating in Level 3 of this event. He five-bet jammed for 4,700 holding and was called by the four-bettor holding . No ace or strange straight draw permutations for Soulier and he was out.
John Eames has made one final table this year when he finished 8th in Event #5 $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold'em for $18,529, but he will not be making a second one in this event. He has been eliminated after running a flush into a boat, which is never a good idea.
