Some Breathing Room For Doft

Elie Doft raised from the cutoff to 16,000 after which he called the three-bet Brendan Taylor put in from the small blind. The board came down {6-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} and Doft called a bet on every street getting them to showdown.

"Aces up," Taylor announced after which Doft stated that was no good. He turned over {9-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{A-Spades} for the flush and raked in this pot. At this stage of the tournament every pot is crucial and Doft just got some breathing room after winning this one.

Who's Gonna Stop Him?

So far it seems like Brian Hastings and Joe Cassidy haven't found a way to do it because Phil Ivey is taking his table apart. He just won back to back hands and increased his chip leader even more so.

On the first hand Ivey raised from the small blind to 16,000 and Cassidy called from the big. The board came down {5-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{3-Spades}{4-Diamonds} and Cassidy ended up calling bets on every street.

Ivey turned over {A-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} and scooped the pot knocking Cassidy down to 270,000 chips.

The very next hand Hastings raised to 16,000 from the hijack and Ivey three-bet him from the button to 24,000. Both blinds folded and Hastings called down on a {A-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} board. Ivey showed him {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} in order to scoop the pot with a full house.

Ivey is good, but if he's getting cards he's truly unstoppable! So far everyone is trailing the eight-time World Series of Poker champion who will be going for number nine today.

Viacheslav Zhukov Eliminated in 17th Place ($13,031)

Viacheslav Zhukov - 17th place
Viacheslav Zhukov - 17th place

Elie Doft raised in middle position and Viacheslav Zhukov re-raised all in for an additional 5,000 from the cutoff. Scotty Nguyen called on the button, as did Doft.

The {J-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{9-Clubs} was checked down by both players and Doft showed {4-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} for tens and fours.

"That's good baby," said Nguyen.

Zhukov tabled {7-Spades}{4-Spades}{5-Clubs}{3-Clubs} for nothing at all, ending the defending champion's bid for a repeat.

Kelly Slipping

We just caught the end of a hand in which Dan Kelly had to give up some bets. On the turn the board read {9-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{2-Clubs} and Kelly bet 16,000 after which his opponent, Brendan Taylor, made the call.

The river was the {5-Spades} and Kelly check-called a bet. Taylor showed {A-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{8-Spades} giving him the full pot since Kelly tossed his cards into the muck. Kelly is down to below the average while Taylor climbs up.

Ismael Bojang Eliminated in 18th Place ($13,031)

Ismael Bojang
Ismael Bojang

Viacheslav Zhukov raised in middle position and Ismael Bojang re-raised from the hijack. Andreas Krause called from the small blind, as did Zhukov, landing a {9-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop.

It went check check to Bojang who bet all in for his last 5,000. Both opponents called and when the {Q-Spades} hit the turn, Krause bet. Zhukov called to see the {A-Clubs} river where Krause bet again. Zhukov called, but Krause tabled two pair which Zhukov could not beat.

It was {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{7-Hearts} for Krause, besting Zhukov's holdings as well as the {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} of Bojang to score the elimination. No player had a low.

La Hurting, Hastings Moves Up

Meng La just lost two pots in a row knocking him down to just over 300,000 chips. Phil Ivey was the first one to take some of his chips, and right after that Brian Hastings got a chunk as well.

Ivey raised to 16,000 and got called by La, who was on the button, and Hanson, who was in the small blind. On a {4-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{10-Spades} flop Hanson checked to Ivey who bet 8,000, only to get called by La.

The turn was the {5-Spades} and La called a 16,000 chip bet. The river was the {K-Clubs} and now La opted to fold when Ivey put out his third consecutive bet. Ivey moved up to 640,000 after this hand.

From the under the gun position Brian Hastings raised to 16,000 on the very next hand and La called from the cutoff. The flop came down {K-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and Hastings bet 8,000 after which La made it 16,000 to go. Hastings called and check-called 16,000 when the {K-Diamonds} hit the turn.

On the river the {A-Spades} showed up and after some deliberation La decided to check behind. Hastings turned over {A-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and La sighed as he much his hand. Hastings is now in second place while La drops to third.
